Default "MRA" Offroad bumper build

Well, in an attempt to mimic this bumper (first picture) I decided to take on the project of fabricating my own bumper. It will probably be a slow build. I don't know yet. Anyway, $49 and some change got me all the steel I will need I believe other than the tubes. I will worry about those later.

Did some quick measurements and a little bit of layout. I had already been thinking about how to tackle this project so I did not feel the need to make a cardboard model prior to starting.

A little bit of cutting with a 4.5" cutting wheel and grinder and this is what I have so far. Was going to work on it today but I had to work.

I used the Paint program in that last picture to show where the corners will be mitered before welding them. The side pieces are just laid on there for the photo.

In case anyone was wondering, I used 3x5 angle that is .25 inch thick. I was not for going that thick but they did not have a 3x5 in 3/16 thickness. But, the bumper won't be all that heavy anyway. The front main part after cutting it to length and cutting the angles back, is fairly light.

For $49 bucks you can't go wrong! I would buy one already made but I just can't see spending $400-500 dollars.

If you are referring to the the very first picture, that is a JCR bumper. It is pricey for that particular one with the tubes and d-ring mounts.

I figure I may have $100 in mine when it is finished, paint and all.

There will be a couple differences in mine so it won't be a complete knock off.

You used a cut off wheel to cut 1/4 inch that must have taken some time but I might end up doing the same now that I have a welder and a stock rear bumper

My rear bumper is all 1/4" plate and tube and I cut it all with a grinder. It's not bad and doesn't take that long. Definitely would rather use a bandsaw though.

I thought the same thing at first but once I started cutting it went really quick and the cuts are straight versus using a cutting torch.
