I'm halfway through my machine tool technology degree at a cc out here, that includes cnc mills and lathes, and manual mills, lathes, and many other little shop tools. While I've been going to school I had been employed at precision castparts running 5 different cnc mills. Two really old monarch vmc150's, and quickmill, and two brand new toyada vmcs. I also have 4 years manual machining experience from high school, but I don't really count that

I have been a journeyman maintenance machinist in a paper mill in St. paul Mn for 12 years now and love it. Sure is nice to be able to make parts for my jeep when I need to.

I've been a toolmaker for 2 years but recently got "promoted" to quality control engineer so I only get to have fun on Saturday when the tool room needs some help(which has been behind on tooling since i started there so every Saturday)

i can run manual machines and am learning to write G codde and run cnc, i am currently a senior in Drafting/CAD at SUNY Alfred. im on the other side of the shop from you guys, ill draw the stuff up and ya'll make it. The program that we use in our senior year here is Unigraphics NX8, its a 3D modeling program that writes G code for you, it also has a CNC simulator. any questions on the design aspect of with CAD programs i would be happy to help.

Applying to college for computer integrated machining.
Hopefully it all works out, no shops around me want to hire me with my past experience from 7 years ago.

That's one heck of a machine with 46 feet of travel. Well, I'm currently finishing up a 2 year machining program at my local tech college and I've been working in a machine shop now for a year running a EZ trak Bridgeport making all sorts of different parts. I'm soon going to be moving over to a tool room HAAS.
