Do you hear banjos?
I worked for a company that made book binding machines that printed on the cover of the book as it was being made. They used the EDMs to cut the steel stamps that printed the text. Had to hold +-.0005". Those are exactly what they used. Looks to be the same model and all.

Right now I have a small fab shop at home. All manual lathes and mills with Mig and Tig welders and other fab tools. Over the last 20 years I've operated and programed them all. From 3-5 axis lathes mills to sinkers and wire edms. The only thing I haven't had a chance to run is a water jet. I'm also fairly decent with MasterCAM and AutoCAD. I just envy y'all northern US guys where the machining trade is still active. All but dried up down here unless you want to work in a shipyard.

Old fart with a wrench
Gentlemen, just a word of introduction. I am a toolmaker with over 40 years experience building injection molds, production equipment, and prototyping for engineers. All of my experience has been on manual eguipment and RAM EDM. I had a disagreement with my boss in 2008 and had to retire to survive financally. I have trained 4 apprentices in the trade during my history and would like to continue teaching, however in New York State, nobody is teaching anything but CNC.
I also have a history of drag racing, engine rebuilding, and fabricating custom parts for this purpose. I no longer have access to machine tools and IT'S DRIVING ME BONKERS!!!
Hydraulics is a love of mine. Any help or guidance I can give to anyone, I will.
Wear your safety glasses and keep the chips flying!
PM me if you like.

30 years in the trade. Currently a maintenance machinist at a nuke plant. I personally own a 4 axis cnc mill and a cnc lathe, plus a couple of manual machines. It makes me laugh when I here "cnc's are for weenies". A real machinist uses ALL machines that are available. It's not uncommon for me to use a Faro laser cmm to scan a part, put that info into SolidWorks and make a model, then cut the replacement part on a 72" King VTL that was made in 1950.
Learn everything you can.
have fun
