And just to set your mind at ease, This will be the 3rd xj that we have set on a Scout II frame (see link to youtube). They work. The other two are VERY capable rigs that handle Clayton OK and some of the hardest trails you can think of. There will be a FULL cage before this thing gets wheeled as stated in my build thread if you had read it.

Here is the first of the three in Clayton ok. Watch and learn. lol

i think i have seen that rig up in clayton. the way you did that is the right way and i give you thumbs up on thinkin outside the box. people need to ask questions before assuming you did it the wrong way. there is nothing wrong with that and looks pretty damn safe to me.

SUBSCRIBED!!! Iv'e seen chopped XJ's around, but never really considered doing it to mine... After reading thru this entire thread I AM SOLD!!! I am definitely going to chop my 95 4door. I think the hardest part about doing this will be deciding on how you want rear to look. Whether you want it it to have the tail gate look, or the functional opening hatch, etc... Everything else is a cake walk and what really sold me is it will cost next to nothing to do. This will be one of the cheapest Mods to carry out. If u do it right, all the materials are already there. GREAT WRITE UP's! And GREAT INFO GUY's... Now I'm all giddy and excited to tear up my perfectly good XJ again lol! Keep all the awesomeness going!

Ya'll have lost your minds! Cutting the roof off of an XJ is stupid.

OK so I've been wanting to do this to my xj for quite some time. Is there anyone out there that wants to help out? I don't have technical skills but I'm willing to learn obviously. The xj is not my DD so there won't be any issues there. I'm located in northern va (20191).

Hopefully there are some peeps out there!

My XJ is stock, and I just want to ask to be sure, could I take the doors off without anything bad happening? I'm new to the Jeep world.

there will be issues. don't chop your jeep unless you're going to build a cage, or add some sort of bracing

your jeep body will flex about the same whether your doors are on or not. take them off if you want

This thread gave me some good ideas. I probably will chop and cage my xj as it's not street driven anymore.
Just the standard 4 door chop(removing the rear side glass and cutting the corners and roof). Gonna build the cage off my 2x6 rockers I'm planning.
How does 1.75" 1/8th wall dom sound for tube? It's about 80$ for a 16 ft stick so that probably what I will end up using. What did y'all use for tube?

Currently figuring this chop out, this is my 3rd chop I've done. Usually seal the cab back in with the hatch door but decided to go a little different route this time and put a tailgate on this one. Didn't wanna ruin another hatch up so figured what I cut off the roof would work for the back of the bed below the glass. This hatch had the glass busted out of it already which is why I chose to cut this one up. I plan on either throwing some lexan in place of the glass or having a bottun on/off canvas soft window made.

That TJ was the Unlimited aka LJ from 2003 to 2006. I have an '04 and got me a 2000 XJ this past summer. Needs floors and rockers but that will come with the chop top project. The LJ is pretty awesome...cause of the extra cabin space behind the back seat. If you ever get a chance to get one...What sucks is living near Niagara....the snow, salt, sand destroys jeeps. :-(
