Default Steering box spacer

I am building a front bumper for my '95 xj and trying to figure out what to do about the steering box bolts, etc. This is my first project for it and I don't get the concept of what the "spacer" is about. Also, can the stock bolts be used or do I need to get longer ones? Anyone know the size of the bolts? Thanks.

I like the plates you added for the sway bar mounts. do you use the existing nuts or did you tack new ones on the backside of the plates? Bumper looks awesome. Great work!

the factory spacer are made out of cast aluminum and is very brittle by now. By the time u remove the steering box bolts to put on the tie ins, you probably would either break the bolts or the spacer. The forces exerted upon the spacer while you steer is great, might as well as upgrade it to a steel version, right. After all you are already taking it apart anyway.

No, but if I had a better welder, I'd probably give it a shot.
