I put a double din in my 98 and had to cut the vent passages going to the top of the dash, took quite a while, but I own a car stereo shop, so it is kinda what i do, but jeeps were not made to have a double din, so great work to all that fab this to make it happen!!

I did a Double Din in-dash in a 97-01 Jeep Cherokee, I think it turned out nice!
Check out my blog post on how I did it!

That's pretty clean. Need to tell us more. I'm in no rush to put a new radio in my Jeep, but I have done quite a few radio installs over the years. Never had to deal with a pesky 1.5 din size though. ANNOYING!
I kinda also like the idea of doing a single din and CB/ham mounted into the dash. I suspect it might be to tight and not look factory (which is kinda a big thing for me).

A single din and a little wally world cobra would probably work pretty well. If you did it right it would look modified for sure but clean at least.

I guess this is cool mod for the modified section... I just dont see any fab work except for the use of tin foil and duct tape.
Now if you built a pimp fiberglass dash to hold the radio I would be impressed, but at the moment I am just shaking my head.

Sitting here in the XJ, looking at the area, I see there is a lot of void space around the radio, but because the inner frame has almost no metal, it really would be a pain to do as you can easily fit the double-din radio/gps/lcd, but making the mounting points would not be easy. If one works with metal and can make pretty precise angle brackets and plates, it could work.
Personally, until I have my Jeep going on long trips/excursions, I'll just settle with the factory radio (well, might do a quick single din swap for the aux jack.
I took some pics but I may be out of space for attachments, will post later.
