Year: 1990
Model: Cherokee
Engine: 4.0L stroked to 4.6
August 2016 COTM Voting Thread
My 1990 Cherokee is a three year build
Engine started as 4.0 with 260,000 miles after it ate the lifters and bump stick had to rebuild. So a 4.2 crank and stroked to a 4.6 with titanium valves and seats with 5 angle valve job ported the head for better flow. Bumped up compression to 9.75 to 1. High flow oil and water pumps. Mustang 5.0 injectors. All sensors replaced as well as hoses vacuum lines and belt. Aluminum rad and electric fan conversion. Hood vents in the works.
AW4 Transmission
Built with a 7 planetary gear set upped the line pressure by 50%, added 60% more clutch material and stageII shift kit for firmer shifts. Heavy duty external cooler and filter with thermal switch and valve to keep it cool but not to cool. Fabricated billit converter with low stall and more clutch material for better lock up.
Atlas II 4.3 low fully sycronized twin stick control. Tom Woods drive shafts.
Front axle is a 77 F150 HP heavy Dana 44 with 1/2" thick axle tubes pressed in will truss later w/ 4.56 race polished Richmond gears and a ECTED Elocker. Molly axles shafts and stub Shafts warn premium hubs.
Rear axle is a ford 9" with thick tubes installed 4.56 Richmond race polished gears and Detroit locker Molly shafts.
Suspension is all rubicon express
7" front dual rate springs long arm conversion with "Y" link, sway discos,
Steering is a high steer kit from ruff stuff full hym joint stock gear box with new cross over brace and heavy duty spacer and ARP mounting bolts.
Rear is 6" springs with ruff country shackles and relocated shackle mounts and custom built anti wrap brace. Shocks are custom valves rubicon express front and rear to optimize ride quality.
Tires are 35- 12.50 15 Dick Cepek mud country
Exterior mods are just getting started. Custom built roof rack made from 1/2" square tube and expanded steel bed. Light mounts for soltek outer lights and center mounted search light with In cab control. CB antenna mount (not yet installed antenna). Bumpers and rock sliders being built out of 2X3 1/4" walled square tubing. Trimmed front fenders and will integrate tube fenders into bumpers and rock sliders.
Interior is stock with CB mound TBD rear cargo area will have shelf with sliding drawer to house spare parts and recovery gear.
Waiting to upgrade the headlights and tail lights. Have installed green ground effect lights under frame to light the trail still waiting on the rock lights under fenders till tube fenders are complete.
I want suspension seats and 5 point harness seat belts but waiting till I decide on the roll cage I want to build.
Future plans include a electric lime green paint job and winch (once bumpers are finished).
Built this jeep as a adventure rig to run Moab and the rubicon trail as well as anything In between. It's built to be tuff as well as easy to repair parts should be easy to get no matter where I end up. The hope is I will not be able to brake it just wear it out but we will see. LOL
