I've been out of service in the shop 20 days this year, mostly waiting for an open spot. Engine would randomly stall while driving. 2hr regens kept my idling to a minimum. Kept getting def dosing unit codes, in shop three times for that, third time was the charm. Had an oil leak from the camshaft, the Detroit's have a separate camshaft "block". They say 2013+ have all that worked out.

My first and only vehicle as of now, 96 XJ. Hopefully I'll find a decent DD in the upcoming year so I can keep the XJ as a toy and put more time into it. I always avoid doing jobs on her out of fear to screw up and having to pay for a tow to the garage.
I have to say though, I love having her as a daily, even with the bigger tires and lift. Since I never got used to DD another car, I couldn't care less about how it handles / rides.

What was the doser problem? Clogged? Or this oil leak was causing it? I read something about the original harness being ****ty but I don't know much about these engines.

My buddy is plowing snow after a year of trucking oil field waste water around. Slowed down real hard and he didn't feel like tracking back & forth to North Dakota anymore.

Yeah the def was pretty much completely clogged before it started the codes. High idle works when it wants to just like the cruise and jakes. Been thinking it had something to do with clutch pedal not reading "out" but the shop guys don't believe me or something. But they make sure they put all the safety crap on there that keeps me from using cruise and the wipers at the same time.
