Rolled yota..
So i have been given the opportunity to buy a friends rolled yota. After going out and recovering it and seeing the thing in person and working with it for 12 hours i think i have a feel for the issues...
Quick backround, it was rolled down the hill several times destroying the body. It was then left to sit for a month and vandals stole the winch, battery, front shocks, various tools and stereo destroying the dash and stole two brand new bfg mud KM2's..
Here's a crappy pic...
When we put in a battery and a new distributer cap (it cracked in the roll) it started right up....
List of things it has..
3.0l v6
5 speed manual tranny
35" BFG Mud KM2's
SAS swap up front
4.56 gears
Detroit lockers front and rear
trussed
aftermarket bumpers
Marlin double stick t-case
aftermarket exhaust
and a crap load of buttons for various things
Now as you can tell from the pics the body is gone. So my thoughts was get another body and swap everything over...
What else do you guys think could be wrong? My father says the frame might be twisted just enough to mess things up, but i dont think so because when i looked at it, it looked straight as could be, both going off the frame itself and the body lines, or well whats left of it...
Also what are some of the DMV legal concerns with swapping bodies?? Would it be better to keep the same VIN number and have it transfered with a restored salvage title, or find a body with a GOOD clean title and just use that VIN number?
Also what kind of implications would i run into with the insurance companies if i had a salvage title??
BTW parting it out isnt an option, since i made a deal with my buddy and that wouldnt be fair to him.

Yeahh i would get it.
Just buy another whole yota of that same year, extend cab.
one that doesnt runn or doesnt have an engine i could tell you a bunch of places where you could get one, and just drop the engine from this one to your new one.
Grab the tranny, the hole 4x4 system, back axle if it dident get messed up. The whole front steerin system if it dident get messed up, Drive shaft, Brake pads, brake discs, the nerf bars on the side, the exhuast system, them head lights might still work good. Just stuff like that, that arent messed up take em off cuase you might need em, or you could sell them if you dont need them. the dmv is not a problem as long as you get another yota that same year and model, that has papers with it, and am not sure about the insurance with the salvage papers

Sounds like you got a good deal on the truck...and as for the cab as long as it isnt beaten that wouldnt be a bad price, id say check for rust but there is none in AZ so...Its most likely worth it. That and parts for Toyos this body style are pretty easy to come by so you got a pretty good deal.

lucky SOB
like i said before cab swaps aren't bad we did one to my buddies 84. just take your time and label everything.
and with it being all apart I'd build a cage and dove tail it now

oh got ya. I think im going to keep it with a straight body and later on down the road when my experience level matches the capabilities, i'll put in a small internal roll cage. I dont think i will be doing anything to crazy now since im poorer then dirt lol
