My son came down to visit in his YJ and work on HUM WEE Jr.
We got into it and installed an Optima red top and a fuel pump and wired it up.
This one has a 1.6L Volvo engine in it, clean conversion. But we were told it had a leaky water pump.
We pulled the inspection plate on the gas tank and checked the filter and found it to be clean, but dry so we went to town and grabbed a few burritos and some gas and buttoned it up and poured it in. Had a few connections issues, but once we got juice to everything it fired right up and we took it for a test drive. It did OK, so we brought it back to the shop and found that the water pump did indeed leak and that the gas tank has a leak in it. We may pull the one out of mine and put in his and weld up a larger one for mine, say 15+ gals instead of the 12.5 stock tank. Next week we will tackle the brakes.

HUMWEE Jr also has a vintage home made electric winch that was popular in the 50s and 60s. it consists of a 24V aircraft starter motor of WWII vintage that was very common then and a kit consisting of a drum and ratchet. Only power in and free spool. This one is deluxe with a home made brake with the parking brake off a 42-45 MB
Pay particular attention to the spelling on the license plate.

Defiantely awesome.
As for parts either get real good at dabing stuff, and become good friends witha machininist. Most old school ones can make you what you want from a basic drawing

There are still parts available for it as well as that engine. If we start emptying our pockets we can take that little Volvo up to 200 hp.

A little update on HUM WEE Jr. My son has been doing some research on the markings and numbers on it. It was apparently assigned to the 5th Marine Div. It has not to exceed 35 mph which means it was a base Jeep. The bases have a 35 mph top speed limit.

Yes we are. It has had a CJ5 top on it which has rotted. We have the hardware to adapt it on and will probably get another for it. We also have the hoops for the military top too.
