My mother's Escape needs some help
I'm tryin to get my mother's 2002 Ford Escape back in prestine shape, and so far the truck drives great, the 5-speed shifts well (once it warms a bit... when its really cold 2nd gear likes to be a lil stiff), and it just recently had a full tune up.
Anyway, there is one issue that I simply have not figured out. Her throttle has a 'catch' in it. I mean, if you go to push on the gas pedal, it is stiff to a certain extent, and will then release, resulting in what I call a "quick rev". It's like the pedal is stiff, but once past that initial push, it slides up and down fine. However, once the gas is released and then pushed again, it has the same issue.
I tried lubing the throttle cable, but that didn't really help. Is there anything else I can do here?
Thanks everyone!

Alrite, so after disconnecting the throttle cable and pulling both it and the TB, I have found that the problem lies in the throttle body somewhere. When I go to pull on the throttle lever, it sticks somewhere. I tried giving it good bath of WD40, and no luck.

Thats pretty common on ford.
Use a tooth brush and carb clean and scrub all the crap out of the throttle plate and inside of the TB as well.
Your problem should go away.

I second the T/B cleaning, and a toothbrush is a perfect aid in getting the throttle plate and housing where the plate rests clean.
What might help the trans shift better when cold is maybe changing the transaxle fluid. There is a drain and fill plug on the transaxle case. The fluid spec is 75w-90 gear oil ( GL-4 ) Might source a synthetic oil for a little better result. I used to change mine every year before winter just to help out the cold shifts.
