here is some info ..... they made alot of honchos that were stepsides. they also put alot of stright 6 in honchoes aswell. you have to remeber that a honcho is just some stripes and wide rims... thats about it. you could get anying on a j10 such as levis int, (I have one) you can get a j10 with the t18 wether it was 360 or stright 6. I have had them,
you could get 3/4 ton suspention with d44 front and rear ( I have one) it belonged to parks and recreation and that is how they orderd it as a work truck.. it also has levis int, so, like most jeeps made it all depends on what was on the shelf when it was going down the line...
some honcos had a roll bar some did not, I know of one here by me that has a d60 and its a one owner...its a 79 no roll bar and it does have the levis int the owner said he remebers paying extra for the int and the clock on the dash.
if you can buy it now and fix it later then do it... if they will sell it pass it on to the right person so they can fix it up and keep it alive...

I can't see the pics of the one in question.. but I am with tazjeeper on that one... I would go for it, and if nothing else maybe do little bits over time until you can dedicate more time/money to building it up... I am actually looking at one I pass every day, and am thinking of talking to them... doing little bits on it while I am working on building up my XJ an then once it is done go on to building up the FSJ.... One way or another I am getting an FSJ to build eventually...

Default Fsj j10 honcho package

Honcho information.
A previous member was sort of correct. Honcho's are a package available on AMC Jeep J10 pickups. There were two types of J10's (not to be confused with J20's). The standard straight box (both short box and long box) and the sportside box. The HONCHO package was available on both the short box townside and the sportside. The Sportside was available only from 1980 thru 1983 on the Sportside, any they are probably the most rare J10. They only made about 1400 (don't have the exact number available), so that is about only 350 each year. I do not care what vehicle you have, with a production of 350 each year for 4 years, that is rare. The shortbox townside HONCHO package was availble in the late 1970's also, plus into the early 1980's, but I do not have the numbers.
You have to remember that AMC Jeep J10 production was never high, less than 6000 to 8000 per year. The HONCHO package consisted of a striping/decal trim package, cloth bucket seats with center armrest,
8 inch wide chrome rims with OWL 31x10.5x15 tires (but have seen adds with white rims), siding rear window, roll bar (most of the time), and chrome tilt-away side mirrors (most of the time). At this point it is pretty hard to find one with original HONCHO decals. Go to the International full size jeep club website, they have a complete vehicle for sale section.
IFSJA.org.
FYI the J10's and Cherokees from AMC were also available in a LAREDO trim package. This is also pretty rare, with similar options.

To find a good (no rust) complete and original (proper engine and not lifted) J10 Sportside will be difficult to find and not for $1000. They would start at about $4K - $5K at this time. I have two J10 Sportsides, '82 and '83 original almost but not quite show. Would not let them go for less than $8K to $10K. And because they are now collectible in original condition, their price is going only up.

Try the website above. There was one in Arkansas a couple of months ago, original condition manual, for about $4k - $5K.

From a 30+ year Jeeper, still learning, hope this info helps.

According to Wikipedia: between 1980 and 1983, only 1264 of the sportside versions were produced. idk why the pics aren't still up.

Thought this was interesting:

interesting link where did that come from... I hope that chrl does not try and bring out a j10 and totaly run that good jeep name into the ground.. bad enough the build junk now...
anyway don't belive all you read on Wikipedia ( I am not saying its wrong but) if you or anyone does not like waht it says you can just modify it to what you think is right.... I think its a wast of time and space on the web when noone is incontrole of the information on it..

Now is the truck in the pic's the one your looking at buying if so jump on it... thats a great start to a realy nice truck.

Hi, came accross this thread. Did the owner of the Honcho ever decide to sell it? I live in Utah as well. I would not mind taking a look at it if PACO would contact me.

He is still not willing to sell, says he has plans to restore it. He'll come around and I'll buy it eventually, unless someone outbids me...
