Two quick things....
First.. you've got the Mazda 5-spd. This is a weaker tranny. Don't try and get stupid with it. Take it easy taking off and accelerating. If you don't know the last time its tranny fluid was changed... do it. The color and condition can give you hints on what kind of shape your tranny is in.
Second.. Don't even attempt to tow anything heavy in OD... That spells death for them.
What is your gear ratio? The stock one is around 3.07, but a 3.55 was available in the factory towing package.
Take it easy and you will do just fine.
My 88 with the factory towing package will pull about 2500 RPM at 55mph in fourth gear. At 65mph its just a hair over 3k RPM... I have the EFI 302 instead, but the fuel milage is not terrific. Just under 10 mpg with the Jeep and trailer behind it..
