Just saw this forum. Perfect for my rig.
So I'll just cover the basics of its past.
Bought in 2012 of February with 70k miles. Drove it stock for a while.
Ripped off the steps, and grille bug thing shortly after, did some axillary lighting. Minor mods, etc.
Threw 32" tires on it when I wore out the stock sized 31's
After that I think the biggest mod was body lift and 33" tires.
Had some hail damage fixed and had it custom painted at that point.
And that brings me to the current state.
Swapping out the ranger leaf springs for some longer Chevy leaf springs.
Increases wheel travel and articulation.
Chevy leafs in.
Flexing it out. Stock shocks limiting droop. Has 2 more inches to droop before the tire comes off the ground. Tons more than stock.
After that I am now planning a solid axle swap for up front. Will be getting rid of the IFS in favor of a solid axle. Getting a Dana 30 and will be running 35's.
Should sit like this when its all said and done. But the sexier 06+ body style

Currently have a low pinion d30 picking up a 98 xj high pinion soon I hope. Just have to find time when my schedule works with the sellers to pick it up.
Then I start collecting parts.

I know I'll catch grief some people on here but...
If your doing a D30 Swap for 35's ago a head and do a D44. It wont be that much more work involved since you already got to set up brackets anyway.
Also... Truck looks good, I used to wheel with a Buddy who has a Red 06 FX4 Ranger.

I'll have to shorten it. That's a significant cost since I can't do that myself.
Unless its a jeep d44, in which case its not that much stronger. And much more expensive to buy.
And there's plenty of d30's on 35's. For what I will be doing it will be more than enough.

The 98XJ will be a Good D30.
HP & x297 Joints.
When you regear spend money on a quality carrier or it will become a weak link. You keeping 4.10's or stepping up to 4.56/4.88's ?

Do the math...only go as high as you need on the gears or you're just wasting fuel, especially if you drive this thing daily. It's kinda like running 93 octane when your car only needs 87...you are just wasting $$$.

I don't daily drive it. To keep stock gearing with 35's it would 4.66. So I can go either way really. 4.88 will be better offroad, 4.56 will be better for getting to the trails.
I don't worry about fuel prices. I commute 140 miles a day. I pay lots regardless lol.
And I run 91 in the truck. 91 here has no ethanol in it worth the extra cost. And I'm running a 91 tune.

No I'm not abandoning this build. Original hp30 I was picking up ended up being a lp30. Gotta love when people try selling things they have no clue about.
Found another today, hoping its in good shape.

Probably going to use Clayton's long arms, and coilovers. Ranger frame and d30 coils don't mesh perfectly, coils would be bowed. So rather than notching the frame I've decided to just run coilovers. So I'll be saving up for those as well as long arms over winter. Those two items will be the most expensive parts of then swap. The rest is small stuff.
Picking up my steering box in the morning (I think) after that I don't have a ton of parts to order.
