Shortcut to changing cooling fan module on WJ
Instead removing the header panel here's a easier way you can change the fan module. This doe's not affect the structure of the header panel in any way. So it's safe to do.
First the simple tools you will need in the order you will use them.
A 1/4" ratchet.
A 1/4" 9/32 Socket for the head light.
A cutting wheel for the access hole.
A 1/4" 5/16 socket and a 1/4 universal with a extension.
And a pick.
1. Remove the one retaining bolt for the passenger side head light. This bolt should be about 4-5" long.
2. Remove headlamp. This is done by grabbing it with two hands and a quick yank and it should come off since it only snaps in.
3.Using the cutting wheel make a access hole as seen in the picture.
4.Unbolt the module with the 5/16 socket. You may need a swivel depending on how big you made the access hole.
5.Using a pick or tiny screw driver push the tab over on the lock and push it out at the same time. Now you can unlock the pigtail from the module.
From here plug new module in. And before reassemble it would be smart to confirm it's working properly by running the engine to operating temp and making sure the fan kicks on and off.
After confirming Pop head light back in and your good to go.
