Whininh in transmission
I have 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x2 it has 137000 miles. It used to make a whining noise when I accelerated. Then I turned off the car and when I restarted the noise stopped. It has been about a month now and the noise was just back. When I accelerate it makes a whining noise but when I get to about 40mph (cruising speed) it stops. I restarted car and it no longer makes the noise. The transmission slips occasionally and I think it is going to go soon. Does anybody know why it is making This whine?

Bastards. If you are up to it, I would drain it and look for glitter. Depending on how much time you are willing to put into it, I'd say pulling the pan wouldn't be a bad idea to give you a chance to look at everything.
