Default What is this part called?

The "mixing valve" that goes to the heater core? Under the hood, connected to the heater hoses?

Previous owner fixed a "leak in the heater core" by disconnecting and tossing the valve, and isolating the core.

Would like to not wear gloves on the way to work, but don't know what the part is called.

Should not need the HCV. Many of us remove them anyway since they are known to become brittle and break, just plug the vacuum line. Chrysler discontinued the HCV in the 1997 XJ.

The heater core can be plumbed directly. But if it drips fluid you will be breathing the fumes from coolant. If it leaks than fluid can pool in the heater box and/or on passenger floorpan.

I thought it would heat up the car all the time if the coolant circulated through the heater core, no?

I will give it a whirl, thanks!

As far as it "leaking" all my other jeeps all have condensation issues when the drain line gets plugged. The issue as described to me mirrored this. Regardless, if I need to replace the core, I will.

If it stops raining, I will jump on this today and make splices out of PVC or copper pipe (whichever I have )

I thought the same thing about heating up the cab. I was assured by a number of members here, that is not the case. And it will not affect AC use in summer either. But I cannot explain how, maybe it's the blend door.
Can PVC handle the underhood temps?

Seems settled definitively. Thanks again.


ETA: 1/2'' copper tube, 2 hose clamps and I have heat.

Didn't leak out of the core, at least for now. Time will tell though.

I'd like to make a suggestion. Double clamp that copper pipe or slightly flare the ends. The system pressure will blow the hose off the copper if you don't have a bump on the end. Ask me how I know.

Why not just run long hoses? The ones on my WJ are about 4 feet long.
