Hi, i have just just bought my grand cherokee a week ago, planning my first modification!
Just been down to local tyre dealer, havnt bought them but have provisionally ordered a set of BF Goodrich Mud Terrains in 31 10 15!
just wanted everyones opinions on if this is a good choice or if there are better options!

I want really extreme off-road tires that are still road legal, as big and wide as possible, but still fit standard rims.
The standard tires are 235/75/15.
Has anyone got 31 10 15's on their jeep?
Did they have any fitting issues?

I had a '97 Grand, w/the factory 2" lifted Up Country suspension. I had 245x70x16's on it, and they'd rub the lower control arms on tight turns. Those 31x10x15"s on stock rims will rub the fenders and control arms when steering and flexing, and probably the pinch weld at the rear of the front fender well as well. That can be hammered down flat though. You can get budget boost/spring spacers to lift it and that will help a lot. >->

Check ebay for the spacers. Might be able to find for cheaper. They are all about same in quality. 3" kits not much more.

My stock 98 ZJ has 245/75/16 with no clearance issues, no lift (yet) either. Was planning on trying a 265/70(75?)/16 but anticipate slight clearance issues, however by the time i can afford the tires I'll have a 2-3" lift on it as well.

I am running a 2" BB with 30x9x5 tires and I have rubbing on the last inch of the front bumper. (Still have yet to trim.) I would go with at least a 3" and plan on cutting and banging to get them to fit...but it will be worth it.

You're definitely going to have to put a lift under your rig before you going putting 31's on. I've got a 3.5" lift under mine and had to trim the front fender so that it didn't rub. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're wanting to to run that size tire on your GC, then I've always seen that a 4" lift is the least you should go without having to trim.

I used to have 31x10.5s on my 93 with a 3.5in lift. never rubbed. I switched to 32x11.5s, and now I'm rubbing only during extreme flex.

Everybody is going to be different. I have a WJ and I don't think we have as much room under our fenders as y'all ZJ owners do.

guys, found a guy in uk who did those bush things to give a 2 inch lift...
Well, not the exact same but close, put it this was, they fit and they are in. The rear ones were bigger than the front... It has resulted in a 1 3/4 inch lift at the front and a 2 1/2 inch lift at the rear, I got the 31-10.5's on yesterday, they fit fine...
They just touch and no more on full lock and catch the front courner of the fender!
I have since fixed this with a saw!
Sounds drastic but it only needed about a half inch shaved off the bottom inch of the fender!
All seems good now!
I will try and get a photo or two uploaded in the next day or two so y'all can see!
I also got myself a big agricultural tow-bar!
It's so high off the ground! And it looks big and nasty!
Keeps those boy racers away from my rear end along those country roads!

This is not accurate at all. I had a 1993 Grand Cherokee (Wagoneer edition) with no mods and ran a 31 X 10.50 BF Goodrich All Terrain KO. Only slight rubbing on the front at full turn.

The 2004 has much more clearance and will fit a 31 X 10.50 without any mods and zero rubbing. Unless of course your shocks are completely worn out and you're bottomed out.

I also a ran a 275 / 45 R20 on the 1993 and it only rubbed at full turn too.

I have a 1997 grand Cherokee limited stock I am running 31x10.5 with no lift only rubbing I had was the bottom corner of front bumper. Just took the grinder and took a sliver off. Other then that I have no issues. But I would say lift it if you plan on a lot of off road. I dont go off road enough to lift it yet

34"x10.5" with about 3.5" of lift. Rubbed on bumper till trimmed and pinch seam till pounded back.

Just remember, if you plan to do some serious off-roading, you need clearance at full lock and max compression.

Just curious. Recently bought a 2008 Grand Cherokee Overland with 17" tires

I have a set of expensive for me studded Nokian snow tires on steel rims left over from the Lexus RX that I traded in. 225/70R16

I hate to just ditch the tires so I was wondering is it possible to use these tires on my Jeep? Probably not, but I thought I would ask.

And - I was told at the tire store today that I can't buy steel rims for my Overland - is that true? The rims they want to put the snow tires on cost more than the tires - there has to be something out there that doesn't cost $185 a rim.

I live in Maine so I need good winter tires that won't slide on ice - bought this Jeep to tow our snowmobile trailer in addition to just wanting to get up my driveway in the winter without sliding into a tree.

Wise counsel would be appreciated.
