Rubicon wheels on Grand Cheroke Questions
I've been doing some looking on the web, wife's got a 2003 grand cherokee and I really want to put some rubicon wheels on it. From what I gather the bolt pattern and such will work, but what I'm struggling with is the tire size. Her old rims are 16" 235 tires.
I'm wondering what tire size to run on the new 17" wheels, as I'm not lifting the truck! Thanks for the help fellas.

Okay, I'm running 245/70R16's on my '00 WJ and they just about fill the wheel wells. They are 29.5" in diameter and with snow pack, I really need a 2" lift. With the 17's, you need to hold a 29" OAD so I would say a 235/70 would work, or maybe a 60. Go to the tire store with a tape measure or check on-line. Some sites give the overall diameter. Those BFG Mud-Terrains look nice. What size are they?

If those are the stock Rubicon tires, they are 255/75/17, about a 32" tire. I'm running those size tires on my WJ with a 3" lift.
Dave's advice is good here (as it usually is), stick to a tire no bigger than 29" in outside diameter and they should fit without a problem.

You can figure out the overall diameter by taking the width, say 235mm, and multiply that by the profile, say 70%, multiply that by 2 and add the rim diameter. You'll have to change the mm to inches, of course. SO, using that logic, a 235/70R17 will be 29.913" in diameter. A 235/65R17 will be 28.990" in diameter which should work. I think I did that right.

My 2004 stock GC "Overland" came from the factory as per build sheet with 17" tires and rims 235/65R/17". I'm now running a 235/70R/17's still no problems. What this means I'm not sure but the build sheet says SDUS HD Suspension with Gas Shocks it also had the full off road package skid plates and all the other stuff.
