I dont know about on the GC but the 91-01 cherokees can take a mustang 5.0 fuel filter for slightly better filtering due to the larger filter.

A larger filter doesnt necessarily mean better filtering.
I run a Mobil1 filter exclusively, Wix is another good one if memory serves me.
There was an oil filter study done years back where they were cut apart and examined... dont know if it's still up or the Corp lawyers got it shut down.

The Lucas works if you have blowby or more wear on your engine. I'm using it in my 5.2L until I can complete design of new engine.

It might be relate or not, but have you tried a higher octane of fuel? What do you use BTW? My FIL has a 4.0 with just over 20k and it had a tick in it. He switched to a higher octane fuel and it went away.

Amsoil, or saw dust. I run amsoil in all my motors, far superior to "real" oil. 4.0's are like old British cars, if they don't leak there's something wrong with it. If it knocks throw a hand full of saw dust in the pan and run it. I know it sounds crazy, and 90% of people will tell you never do it. I had an 88 Cherokee that had over 300K on it. It knocked like crazy, I put some saw dust in it and it ran for another 5K before I sold it.

i first learned the sawdust thing on the Andy Griffith Show...then my buddy learned about it first hand when he got what he thought to be a solid truck but the motor was on its last legs. its a quick remedy to the noise but i would avoid it

I assume that the tick you refer to has been diagnosed as being a valve lifter not pumping up and causing excessive clearance in the valve train. In that case, I'd use every additive (external fix) I could find to get oil flowing to that lifter and/or relieving any sticking that's occurring inside the lifter. I'd also change the oil more frequently and run the engine at high RPM (highway speed in 3rd gear) as a part of this attempt. It can't hurt to try the additives before replacing the lifter.

I don't see how higher octane fuel is going to help your ticking or improve performance if the issue isn't spark knock and your engine doesn't use a knock sensor. I only use a premium fuel when excessive spark knock may occur as when towing. I also use it when off-roading. Just FYI, if you are only looking for mid-grade octane, I get more bang for my buck in my Acura TSX if I fill with 50% regular and 50% premium down here in the south. I get 90 octane for the price of 89. Just one of a cheap *ss's tricks.
