Default Replacing the fuel pressure regulator on a 01 cherokee 4.0

I need to replace the fuel pressure regulator on a 01 cherokee 4.0 v6. I was wondering is there a write up on replacing the fuel pressure regulator?

Well the good news is it`s pretty easy to replace..The bad news is you need to drop the gas tank to get to it since it`s built into the top of the fuel pump. I'll snoop around for a step by step write up.

Yes, I know I need to drop the gas tank..When I drop the tank how is the fuel pressure regulator attached on top of the tank? By chance do you have any pics?

The FPR on your WJ does not require the tank to be dropped. It's built into the external fuel filter, will cost about $30 to replace, and is easy to do in about 15 minutes (I did mine a few nights ago).

I've never seen that part, and even when I started from the beginning and entered your vehicle info it still would not pull that part when I searched for fuel pressure regulator. It definitely isn't what I replaced. I only say that because there have been times past that I searched Advanced Auto or Auto Zone's sites and accidentally left the info for the previous vehicle I had been searching for. Are you replacing it because your WJ throwing a code?

The fpr is what the parts guy looked up and gave to me.. I'm replacing the fpr, because it is hard to start when the car sits or when it is warm. The injectors are within range. I hooked up my fuel pressure gauge and after I turned the key on, the pressure slowly decreases. It seems like the fuel rail is not holding pressure and the fuel is bleeding off.

Is this the part you replaced? Does this fuel filter contains the fpr? I'm really confused on this one..

That is indeed the part I replaced and, according to the wjjeeps.com site I linked to, it contains the FPR as well. Since it's so much cheaper than the thing you linked to and is so easy to replace, you might consider starting with that.

Your issue sounds exactly like what a buddy of mine went through, and it ended up being his fuel pump.

Allright, got my problem fixed today. Dropped the effin fuel tank and changed the fuel pump.

Yesterday, i did a fuel pressure test with the old pump...i had to cycle the key 4 time before i start the jeep...to get a reading of 50 psi on the gauge...then started it and my pressure was sitting at 65psi.

Today, with the new pump in, i hooked up the fuel pressure gauge...turn the key to ''on'' once...pressure goes right up to 50 psi mahahaha...fired right up. Still running at 65 psi...

When i turn it off...it also keep the pressure a lot longer at the fuel rail than it was before.

Problem solve.
