Replacement viscous coupling no good…?
I just finished replacing the viscous coupling in my '98 5.9 Limited, NP249 xfer case.
Unfortunately, the new coupling still scrapes the tires on the ground. It's not as bad as the original coupling, but it's still noticeable…unacceptably so.
I had used a "Viscous Coupling Kit", Part #2897220AAK2.CRN from Offroad Outpost in Ridgefield, WA, It's a Crown brand part. I haven't tried the number yet, but it's 360-693-7862. When I tried to pull up their webpage, I found an anonymous posting that said: "We'll be back. Thanks for visiting. Our store is currently unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience." I pulled up the Google street view and found "Rick's Auto Repair", an auto repair and storage facility shop.
Sounds ominous, like they're out of business. I wonder if anybody has any idea whether Crown will stand by the viscous coupling, and how I should go about getting them to do it?
Any experience with replacing more than one viscous coupling? In a 249 case?
I can’t believe this truck left the factory skipping and hopping the way this one does.
