Power steering Leak
Hi,
I seem to have a power steering leak and I can't seem to find the source. I changed the pump but still leaking. I was wondering if the steering gearbox can also be a source of the leak? I was thinking of replacing it anyway because I have some slack in my steering wheel that I can't get rid of.
Any suggestions to resolving this nuisance of a problem?

More than likely it's you P/S pressure line. While you're there, might as well go ahead and replace the return line also. If you have already replaced the p/s pump, then you can do this too. You can get both lines at advance or autozone. As you know, it's a tight squeeze in there.

Yeah, check the pressure hose. I have seen more than one gearbox leak down by the sector shaft because of a cracked housing, but that was on old Dodge vans. There are a few seals in the gear box that can leak. If it is just a small leak at the gearbox seals, put about a shot glass full of brake fluid in the power steering fluid. After a day or two the leak should stop because the brake fluid will swell the seals. But is more than likely the pressure hose leaking.

I think I've found where the leak is coming from. It's coming from the behind the lower power steering pump bolt. Would I need to replace the whole pump or can I get seals for this? Also, would the brake fluid trick work with this type of leak?

Brake fluid expands seals, and eventually itll leak worswe then before. Thats what i have heared anyway, however someone told me to try brake fluid in my powersteering because mine is leaking also.. I never did tho because i just dont wanna mix those 2 fluids together and mess up more stuff..
If yours is leaking from where i think its leaking from you need to replace the pump, mine is doing the same thing, however its such a small leak i only need to refill it a tiny bit every 1-2 months.. I put in some brake fluid with stop leak and it seemed to slow the leak alot. I dont see a little waterspot under the Jeep anymore
