Hose the area down with ether and see if the engine races. Never actually done it, but have been told that by my elders with enough consistency that I would do it myself. It beats tearing crap apart tonight. Just remember to save some for "date night" with the wife.

Easier yet. Just plug the hose and see if it makes a difference. As far as I know, the vacuum tank is only there for the cruise control and to close the heater doors on shutdown.

So, yesterday I pulled the fuel rail and cleaned as much as i could with carb cleaner. It was nasty. Didn't push any through the injectors cause I didn't have a rig handy to hook up, but cleaned up everything as well as I could. It's alot happier now, but not fixed. Didn't have high hopes there, but thought I'd report that actually pulling the fuel rail off and cleaning everything helps pep up a jeep.
Btw, I did pull the vacuum canister and put a new hose on it. Yet again, didn't fix anything, but it made me feel better about it.

IMHO, if the fuel rail was crappy, I'd assume the injectors are also. I don't think your fuel filter was doing much or was bypassing an awful lot. I can't remember if this jeep is one of those with just an internal tank filter or not, but if it is, I'd install an in-line filter as well.
I'd still change the injectors, even with a JY set.

Yes, I saw that when you posted it. It gets confusing because I don't own a ZJ anymore. I only had that one for little more than a year because the "frame" broke. The unit body was perforated with rust at all 8 control arm mounting points.
I fell in love with a pretty face without looking at her body. She had been owned by 2 soldiers and ridden hard. I should have known better, but the price was right. They were being deployed and had to sell it. It was a '97, 4.0, 242 with tow package. $1200 in 2010. 185K miles. Dark Rosewood.

just an update, replaced the map sensor, didn't fix it, but did make an interesting change to the symptoms. Miss still comes but only once the jeep warms up. Till then it does okay. After it warms up it barely idles for the missing.

To isolate a vacuum leak, use a propane torch, NOT LIT, just crack open the valve and play it around suspected areas. If the engine speeds up, that's where your leak is. I used to use ether as well, until a spark plug lit it off on me. OH, and WD40 is flammable as well and uses propane for propellant. A friend of mine set fire to his Dodge Caravan by spraying his heater blower motor with WD40 while it was running!

Am I supposed to have an egr valve? I need to look tomorrow, but from what I can see of where it's supposed to be, there's a plate there.
