I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Recently, it started cutting off while running. I was told it is possibly the fuel pump. I changed the fuel pump and it rode fine for a day or two but cut off again. What else can it be? Has anyone had this problem?

I purchased a fuel pump from Advance Auto parts. It drove fine for a couple of days but now it's cutting off again. Is there any other problem that would cause that besides the fuel pump?

mine started doing that, was a faulty fuel guage, was low on diesel. Could it maybe be dirty fuel? Did you have it low, near empty before it happened? If so maybe get it in for a fuel system flush.

i have had bad experience with cheap fuel pumps.

ive gone through 3 cheap pumps that lasted me anywhere from 60 to 100 miles then finally stopped working and returned them all before settling on a bosch unit from napa, much nicer build quality and has been fine for the past 2k miles.

Just this very day I have had exactly the same problem with my Laredo.

found out the problem was a leaking gaskt between the fuel filter and the chamber (at the bottom of the fuel filter). Stick your hand underneath and see if it is wet with diesel, if so bingo. Failing that could be faulty filter head, or air is getting in somewhere. Try running a bypass aroun the fuel filter and see if it runs with that (attach the 'in' hose to the 'out' with a double male hose joint) Check you air intake and all hose clips, mak sure teh seals arent broken. Try running it wit the air sensor disconnected. Its only 1 of 2 things, fuel or air. Hopefully you can establish what it is.

Check all of the connections, make sure they are all tight, especially the ground. Try swapping the fuel pump relay for teh turn signal relay I think they are the same. They are under the hood in teh main fuse relay box. Try a better fuel pump, some are cheap and just do not put enough fuel pressure out. You could also borrow a fuel pressure gausge from autozone and see what the fuel pressure at teh fuel rail under the hood is when it cuts out.

I agree. If you got it from advanced or auto zone, that's about all the longer they last.

Hey Folks; Just new to this site. I have rebuilt a V-6 and wish I still
had the thing but the Trial Police hauled it away before I could drag it
home with my teeth. Anyway I recently was driving to Utah and my
1999 in-line 6 cylinder F/I started cutting out and dieing. I thought
it was fuel vapor lock up. Turns out the Crank-Shaft-Sensor, the
one on the Driver side rear Bell housing mate section and held by two
bolts that are a Bear to get at. If you pull out the sensor and clean
off and check for metal whiskers around the sensor head you will be
saved. What is happening is when the metal whiskers from the gear-ring or starter get hot, they will bunch up and form a shunt to the pick-up magnet and not send a signal to the module. Guess how I learned about it? I could'nt get help anywhere, so I went out of a certain Utah town shared an apple with a really neat pony who had wiskers that just seemed to speak to me while he was eating. No Crap this really works, haven't had any problems yet, so if you are running with Fuel Injection on a 1999 Cherokee, check this Crank shaft Pickup module for shavings around the pick-up head.
