Default hydraulic lifters

in the chilton manual it says you are supposed to ensure the lifters are filled with oil before you place them back into their spot...i bought new ones...how are you supposed to fill them with oil...i replaced all on drivers side and still have tapping noise so maybe something different is wrong???

Find small vessel (cup, bowl, jar, can, whatever.) Glass is contraindicated - I've had them break out halfway through doing this...

Fill with enough oil to fully submerge a lifter.

Drop a lifter in, right way up.

Using a pushrod, "pump" the lifter piston until you don't get any bubbles anymore - then an additional five times (just to make sure.)

Remove the lifter, coat the foot liberally with assembly lube, coat the sides with assembly lube, drop in the hole.

WARNING: If you are removing a lifter to reinstall, it must go in the same hole you removed it from - or something is going to fail (either the lifter or the cam - usually the cam.) Remove and replace one at a time, or just get new if you're not sure.

Since you mention "driver's side," I'm assuming it's a V6 or V8 - make sure you look up valvetrain adjustment specs for when you put everything back together (especially since I don't know them offhand, and therefore can't tell you.)
