Grand Cherokee Vehicle Information Center
OK quick question with hopefully a quick and easy fix. I own a 1993 Grand Cherokee Grand Wagoneer, full time 4wd, basically everything you could want on it. Recently the Vehicle Information Center showed that there was a rear lamp failure, found the problem and replaced the bulb. Turned out to be the the right bulb in the center brake light. Now the alarm on the vehicle info center won't stop sounding, it stays on constantly with that insanely annoying sound I'm sure you've all heard that can only remind you of getting knocked in the head and you're ears ringing. I've checked every bulb in the rear of the car a few times, they all work and are fitted in properly. Does anyone know why this won't reset or am I missing something? Does this type of vehicle require a "smart bulb"? Any info would be appreciated because now basically this vehicle is down due to the fact that driving in Texas is annoying enough without the alarm going. Thanks in advance.

ok got it fixed after some extensive online research. Just in case anyone else has this problem it actually is the bulb. You need a special bulb, a "smart bulb", that apparently Jeep has kept to themselves. Had to go to a Jeep dealership to get this one. Oh and don't listen to the people at the parts counter by the way, guy at the parts counter said there was no such thing. So I put it in the service bay and they tried to charge me $50 just to put the bulb in. After some arguing about what the guy at the parts counter said I got it dropped and only paid for the bulb.

its not a smart bulb ... it just has to be the right bulb. If it needs a 921 for the CHMSL, you have to use a 921 .... not a 922, not something the PepBoy tells you 'will fit', not something that looks 'just like what I took out", .. use a 921 or the LOM won't regard it as a properly functioning lamp.
Proper lamp numbers are in the owners manual, the FSM, or can be found on-line.

X2 it is very sensitive to resistance, so you might even need to try different bulbs from different manufactures of teh same type to get a compatible one.
