CPS location on 95 Grand Cherokee 4.0
Am I correct...isn't the CPS located at the rear of the engine in the same location as earlier Renix 4.0? Or am I wrong.
I am helpng a friend with his 95 Grand Cherokee 4.0. He took it to pep Boys as it would randomly stalled out. They check the codes and it came back as bad CPS.
They said the CPS was in the Distributor....I know there is a sensor in the Distributor but I thought that was for sensing leading and trailing edge to determine timing on #1 cylinder...so the ECU knows when that cylinder is firing in order to auto adjust timing as needed.
Or am I just all mixed up.
Sorry...I have an 89 MJ 4.0 so i could be mixed up...but I swear the CPS is still on the rear of the engine.
They replaced the distributor and now it won't even run...won't idle..barely runs from 1200 -200 rpm and dies above that.
I think..they indexed the distributor wrong when the put it back in ( if it is anything like the renix distributor setup...which I made the mistake myself). Plus I think the CPS is still bad and they messed up the whole shbang.
It ran fine prior to the distributor change...just randomly died...which is classic CPS. They even changed the original DIst back in and it runs like timing is off...SO swear the distributor is off 1 tooth which I am going to check this week.
Any idea...am I on the right track?

^yes, however that pic is for a cherokee.
the zj (grand) CPS only has one bolt, and the plug is smaller, but on the passenger side of the motor.
but essentially the same idea.

You are correct the CPS is one bolt and different. All info I have is that 4.0 it is on the drivers side and 5.2 5.9 it is on the passenger side.
Better pic. Where ever it is located, you know what to look for.
