I thought $20 for a full size spare would help you out a little, but if you don't want it that's fine

i'm sure you know already, but your spare needs to be the same size as the rest of your tires. rim width shouldn't really matter, buy why not just get a matching spare?

DUH!!!! That's what I'm trying to do! My 245/70R16 tire won't fit on a 17X4.5 Rim!!!! It needs AT LEAST a 6" wide rim and matching diameter AND bolt pattern.

Now, What was your question?

ok. what rims do you have on your jeep now? are they factory or aftermarket?
in reality, any 16 inch factory jeep rim from any xj, zj, tj or even ford ranger/explorer will fit. they have 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern.
there are some other jeeps that use 16 inch rim but not sure which ones have your bolt pattern. some went to 5 on 5.

Dave has a wj so his is 5x5 bolt pattern.Really his only hope at a cheap rim is the junkyard,Or spend about 60 for a cragar steel rim,The newer jeeps that run the 5x5 bolt pattern run 17s or bigger no clue on the spare rim they run tho.

so he's running basically a 30 inch tire. i assume 245 doesn't come stock on the wj?
i'm sure the wj came with the largest size tire in stock form other than a rubicon.
but if a regular jk x came with a 29.72 inch tire whether it's on a 16 or 17 inch rim, that would work as a spare. as long as it's not larger than 30 and smaller than 29.5.

apparently the 2012ish jk sport came with 225/75R16 which is about 29-30" so that would also work.

there are lots of stock options out there. doesn't matter the rim size, as long as the overall circumference is about 29/30 inches and the bolt pattern is 5 on 5.

it just won't be compact. so it's gonna take up space.

OMG!!!! This thread has become a nightmare! My 245/70R16's were optional on my WJ from the factory. All I'm trying to do is use one of my old tires as a spare. My original wheels are 16X7 aluminum 5X5 bolt pattern. I can't find a junkyard wheel and the only other option is a new steel wheel for $75.

At that price, I'll just stick with my factory compact spare and keep the old tire in the garage until an aluminum one appears out of thin air.

Dave, I wish we lived closer. I have a full set sitting in my garage. However the shipping would be cost prohibitive. Can't get much farther apart then Las Vegas-New York. Sorry.

ok dave. i see what you are saying. so you have a tire, but no spare rim to put it on.

i'm sure there must be a scrapyard close to you with a rim. heck, in all the yards around here, there are more wj's than any and all other jeeps combined. junkyards here sell a rim for 20-30 bux. sometimes it has a tire on it too if you're lucky.

as for your convenience spare tire, you cannot put a regular tire on those rims. no shop in their right mind would attempt to do it at any cost.

hope you find something soon. good luck.

Thanks, dude! I've seen them on E-Bay for about $100 apiece and not really good looking. Somebody mentioned a Ford truck rim, but they're 1/2 lugs while mine are 7/16. In other words, the holes are too big. Plus, IDK about the center hole fitting over my hubs.

I don't know! You know, a Chevy wheel is a Chevy wheel. 5 lug 2WD or 6 lug 4WD. WHY does Chrysler have to make it difficult?

Ford never used the 5x5 on a truck they did some cars in the late 60s early 70s,The trucks was 5x5.5 or 5x4.5 then they went metric 5 x 135mm,Gm used a ton of 5x5 but wrong lug size for you.I looked hard all i can find you can use is wj jk and commander. If you want to thumb around some charts http://www.crawlpedia.com/bolt_patterns.htm or http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/hot-r...#axzz3nlRmYQ6o

I've got to thank you guys for all the effort you've put into this. I just hate the "donut" spares even though I've only had to use it once. I guess it's just me, but we've put enough time into this thing. As I've said, I'll just keep the good tire until the time arises I can find another wheel. The really funny thing is when I needed a spare wheel for my Chevy 4X4, I found one on the side of the road! Chrome and everything! I mounted it on my truck and spun it up. It ran true and didn't have any dents. I have NO idea how it got there. Maybe it fell off the back of a scrapper's truck. Things like that just don't happen to me!
