Considering A GC but whats the difference/years?
Everywhere I read says the 96 to 98 ZJ is the optimal years for a ZJ but what is wrong or the difference between say.... 90 to 96? (For aftermarket lifts, mods. ETC..)
I really want another XJ 4x4 but they are getting hard to find in decent shape and theres like 3 times the ZJs available.
Thanks.

There were two generations of the ZJ. 1993-95 and the 96-98. The first gen had different grills and interiors with only a driver side airbag. The grill and body cladding was changed for the 96 model year, that year was also the first year for adjustable upper seat belt anchors and the OBDII requirements. Mechanically both generations are the same. The 1998 ZJ with the 5.9 V8 is the most desirable and pretty rare.

As far as the aftermarket stuff like a lift and all that the xj and zj are pretty close but the zj stuff is a little more money. As a daily driver i rather have the zj the rear coils will ride smoother and the zj has better seats to me.I would get a v8 one 96-98 if i can.Just like the xj they can rust out so look at the rockers and the rear control arm mounts.
