Front driveshaft removed---now what?
I took the front driveshaft off of my 2000 GC 4.7 V8 (NV247) and the whining and whirring sound is almost nonexistent now. Obviously my driveshaft was the issue, but what about it would be the problem? I have the double cardan on one end and the single cardan on the other.
I eventually want 4WD again...thanks in advance.

Be careful with that front drive shaft removed as your vehicle can now roll when in park. You should use the parking brake until you remedy the situation.

On flat ground it might not happen, but lots of people have had it happen to them, and some have reported it on this forum.

I'll try and explain this. The t-case allows slippage between the front and rear drive shafts, they're not locked together. With the front shaft removed and the trans in park, the t-case's front yoke can remain stationary, but the rear wheels, shaft, and t-case yoke can rotate since the front & rear yokes aren't locked together inside the t-case. That would allow the vehicle to roll in certain circumstances when one of the drive shafts have been removed.

Hi how long can one drive a jeep without the front drive shaft in? Will there be any ill effects with out the drive shaft in , reason why i ask is my cv joints are bad !

apparently driving with the front drive shaft removed on your jeep type can damage the viscous coupler in the t-case, and therefore should not be driven sans front drive shaft.
add that to the fact your jeep can and will roll without it.
