Default Dana 30 Hub conversion

Has anyone tried the Dana 30 Hub conversion? How do you like it? It seems to allow for front locker for an everyday driver.

I ran a locker in my 30 for 3 years on the road and never noticed it. Like already stated why waste that kind of money on a 30?

i was thinking that the hub conversion, would prevent excessive tire wear when using a front locker like a "ez or auburn ".....also any hard steering issues.....what about the increase in gas mileage , due to the internal parts moving dissmised via unlocking the hubs .......what are your thoughts ?

i have no noticeable wear on the front tires with a locker. if your still worried go with a selectable locker. there is no change in gas mileage. there is only hard steering issues when in 4wd on the pavement. but in 4wd you would have the hubs locked anyway. if youre worried about the unit bearing issues just go with 44. the warn conversion is over $1000

Or, if you insist on building up your D30, go with some Reid Racing knuckles.

http://www.reidracing.biz/DANA30.php

They run $259 per knuckle and allow you to run stock pre-1987 Dana 44 Chevy or Jeep spindles, hubs, rotors, calipers, stub shafts, and lockouts. This means you can improve your steering, brakes, and hubs using easy to find, less expensive, stock parts.

No, they call that voice of experience!

I'd put more weight in someones opinion who did the mod and had actual experience with it than some kid repeating what he read elsewhere.

you have something say about everything i say now because i dont wanna sell you my front axle. why would i take less then i know i can get from a guy who threatened to "beat me up cause he was a heavy weight ufc fighter". get a life man.

before i found the ems kit i didnt see the warn conversion as a good investment. it was only capable of holding 33s. the kit i got uses a 3/4 ton lock out. like i said my original reason for doing the swap was i had a lot transfer case noise in 2wd. i didnt have time to pull the tc apart again. i had the extra money around so i figured whats it gonna hurt to try it. i found from my experience that it was one of the best upgrades i made for my 30. i wheel my jeep like it should be wheeled with a lil 30 in the front. now if i were to get stuck in a bad place where i broke anything i could just unlock my hubs and not cause any further damage. if you dont have the time to build a 44 but do have some money to throw around i say go for it. but definitely gowith the EMS Offroad conversion kit.
