Default Grand Cherokee Ask the Question Thread

I'd like to start a sticky and get some Grand Cherokee masters in here like the Cherokee section has!

This thread is for all those who would like to ask something tech related and don't want to start a new thread or hijack someone elses, and for all those tech related questions you happen to ask in the big off topic threads. Me and some of the older members will answer every kind of question as long as it is TECH and polite.
P.S. for the newbs: stupid questions don't exist, there are only stupid answers. Feel free to ask whatever you want. "What is a Jeep?" is a good question....

If your question is very common (eg: lift) please DO A RESEARCH FIRST and if you don't find the answer come back here, 75% of the questions can be answered within a 5/10 min browse using the "SEARCH" button on the black banner menu.

Default What model of auto transmission in WJ?

Is found in a 6 cylinder 4 wd and 2 wd 2002 Grand Cherokee Larado?
My buddy has a 2000 WJ and we just scored a 2002 Larado 4 wd complete for $200. Transmission only works in reverse.
Want to know if I can swap out the output shaft fromt the 4wd transmission to the 2 wd transmission and bolt up the transfer case.
Haven't been under it since we towed it home. Trying to get ducks lined up before we start tearing it apart.
I have also found a transmission model 30-43le on Kijiji (like Craigs List in Canada) for real cheap and wondering if that is the one I need.

Thanks

Those will be 42RE, the worst transmission Chrysler ever put in a Jeep. Ask NewKindofClown. Apparently you can swap the *** ends of them, see here: http://mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthr...way!!!-writeup

30-43LE is AW4

Great write up. Thanks.
I just hope it holds true for the WJ as well as the ZJ.
Looks like a much easier job then the AW4.

Yeah AW4 means rebuilding the thing. Not remotely worth it.

The 2 major differences with the WJ is it shifts by cable and there is no speed sensor in the t/case.
