My 99 wont shift into 4Lo....actually lets put it this way it will shift into 4Lo however the front wheels wont engage, I think it is the t-case is my assumption correct?? It runs in 4 wheel all-time and it is supposed to engage when the rear wheels slip and they dont not engage that way either. Any suggestions??
thanks-

Welcome to CF.
How long have you owned it? Have you looked underneath it? It could be the transfer case linkage is loose, disconnected, or needs adjusting. It could be internal t-case damage. It could be that the front drive-shaft has been removed.
This describes the various 4WD systems offered on the WJ. >http://www.wjjeeps.com/tcases.htm

I have owned it for 2 1/2 yrs, and I have looked underneath a few times b/c the 4x4 problem has been bugging me lol.....I will look closer at the linkage next time I crawl underneath it.
-Thanks

Sounds like you have the Quatra-Trac II system, with 4 HI-N-4 LO positions on the range selector. If the front wheels don't pull at all, even in 4 HI, it's probably internal damage in the t-case or the front axle.
My '04 WJ has this system and when you take off hard the rear tires spin briefly then the front tires grab. In the grass or dirt all 4 tires will spin.

If it's the t-case it would probably be a lot cheaper to replace it than to have yours rebuilt. The NV 247 t-case should be the same from '99-'04 I would think. You might find a low mile used one for cheap.

I was haven the same issue with mine awhile back then a buddy of mine told me to check the Transfercase fluid level.Sure enough there wasnt enough in there so I added some and I started workin again. My friend told me it engages with the Fluid and if theres not enough it wont engage he also said i was lucky it didnt burn up. Guess i got lucky But check the fluid level in the T-Case hope your as lucky as I was. I have the same Tcase 247 try it out maybe even change the old out if there is fluid in there.
