Default 4wd lever stuck

I have a 1998 GC with selectrac 4WD. I don't use the Jeep very often so I think my problem is rusty linkages.I live in MinneSNOWta. We are in the midst of a big snow storm. I tried to put the jeep into 4wd and the lever will not move. I have sprayed it with penatrating oil, both on the underside of the jeep, as well as under the lever on the inside of the jeep. That was last night. So far there is absolutely no change in my problem.I even loosened the trunnion bolt on the linkage to see if that would help, but nothing changed. The 4wd lever just does not want to move.Does anyone have any other ideas? Thanks, jimmyb

I have tried every possible way I can think of. I have had the Jeep for 8 years and never had any problems with it until now. I have tried with the jeep in park, neutral, drive, basically every gear possible. I have never really known the right way to shift into 4wd. I have always put it in neutral, then shifted into 4wd.

You can disconect the linkage and try to shift it by hand. Just a thought

Never had a problem shifting mine, never pushed the brake pedal in...of course I use fulltime a lot and shift when I'm moving at anywhere between 10mph and 55mph. When shifting into 4 lo, slight movement forward 2-3mph put trans. in neutral push lever to right and pull straight back. I would say that you have rust on the linkage since you haven't used it in a while.
