2000 wj engine swap? 4.7-4.0

2000 wj engine swap? 4.7-4.0
looking at a 2000 grand cherokee with a 4.7. i can get my hands on a 2000 gc with 4.0l cheap and rolled. will the 4.0 "drop in" to the 4.7 engine bay?

TBH, i'm not entirely sure if it will just swap right in. Any particular reason you want to swap in the 4.0, instead of keep the 4.7? I had a WJ with the 4.7 and LOVED it. I drove a WJ with the 4.0, and it seemed too sluggish, IMHO. The 4.7 is a pretty powerful engine, and the mileage difference isn't much, if any.

Too many problems to overcome even if the mounting allows it.
Exhaust connections (V vs Straight)
Ignition system
Diagnostics system
Cooling system – rad./res./AC connections
etc….
You will be spending more money overcoming these issues, than saved by buying a 4L.

Why take a step backwards? They're both good engines, but the 4.7 has more power for the same amount of fuel.
