Question 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee overheating

My 1999 jeep has the 4.0 6cyl with the electric cooling fan. I am currently stumped as to why the electric fan will not turn on. When I jumper 12v to the fan it operates fine. I just replaced the temp switch on the thermostat housing but that was no help as well. I found the fan relay in a compartment next to battery. I swapped the 40 amp radiator fan relay with the 40amp starter relay and this was no help. Is there more to the system that this. I am sure that this circuit goes through the engine computer but I am not getting any troublecodes. Any Ideas.

I would figure a broken wire or a relay, but if you switched it, I guess it's not a relay. I thought the fan relay was under the headlight separate from the rest tho. Or is that just in a Grand???? I know the Grand is under the right headlight. I always take out the headlight assembly and use a hole saw to get to it without doing major disassembly.

There are two relays. Mine blew the one under the hood, I got lucky with it.

The other is under the passenger headlight.
Fan relay writeup

Or the Temp sensor needs replaced.

I've always wondered why they would do a lot of that stuff too moses. In fact, that must be the fine Chrysler engineering. Long live AMC. LOL.

Designed by an engineer not a mechanic.

Default Thank you

Thanks everyone for your help. It was that relay. The relay I changed was the "radiator fan relay". Im not really sure what it is for but it obviously was not the problem.

Shouldn't this thread be in the GC chat area since most of us don't have grands here?
