My Electric fan has stopped working and she is having over heating issues. I checked out the fuses next to the battery and everything looked fine. Is there a place I can plug the fan right to the battery to check if it indeed works before I have to splice the wires/order new fan?
(I replaced the thermostat and coolant prior to noticing the fan had stopped working) ![]() Thanks guys My Wrangler likes doing part runs for our GC |

Make sure you check the fuse with a meter to get a good test. Don't have info on a 99 but on the 98 and older there is a resistor next to the fan motor. These sometimes develop faults. You can do a voltage test on the harness to see if voltage is getting to the resistor. If you can identify the positive and negative connections on the fan, you can attach some jumper wires to test the motor with 12 volts. I believe the fan motor is held in place with 3 screws.

Thanks ET
I'll fiddle around with it more on Tuesday. Both the TJ and the WJ have little problems that need my attention. >.< |

it could be the fan relay also. on the 99 grand cherokee, the relay is under the passenger headlight. you have to either remove the front bumper cover or do like I did and pull the headlight out and cut thru the plastic to get to it. I learned the hard way on my wife's 99 that the fan is controled by the computer and it doesnt recieve a constant 12v. it gets variable voltage for the temp it is running. I straight wired the fan on hers and burnt it up in about a year and in order to pull the fan, you have to pull the radiator also. one of the bolts that holds the fan and shroud on is behind the steering gear box.

After reading 1992laredo4x4 post, I believe I have misread this thread. I misinterpreted it to be the heater blower inside the cab as opposed to the fan on the engine. The info posted is for the inside heater blower. If so, my apology. I do recall a DIY tutorial on replacing a relay in the location mentioned. I will see if I can find it |
