Default 1995 Grand Cherokee Transfer Case

Hey guys yesterday I was driving my jeep and it started making a weird popping sound when I turned or slowed down. I noticed that it was coming from the Lever on my T-case trying to move or pop out. I tried to make it home because it was below zero where I was and walking was not an option and had no cell phone service and made it about 1/2 a mile home when all the sudden it started making a loud almost grind like noise until I stopped a shoved it in park. I tried to put it back in drive and it started again. I managed to get it to let me put it in 4lo and i drove 10 the rest of the way home.

My question is does this sound like the T-case is going out?

More importantly if it is where is the best place for me to get the CHEAPEST replacement possible? I have a little money but I am a poor college student and really need my car to be working.

Thanks for the help guys

edit - also it is a V8 all time 4 wheel drive if u need to know that

I think that is what you have already.

The 242 transfer case is known as SelecTrac and has 2wd, partime 4wd, fulltime 4wd and 4 LO. It was used in the Grand Cherokee from 93 to 04. It should be what you have already. If not, it should fit, however you might need different driveshafts.

Anybody else, feel free to chime in.

242 in 93/94 GC are rare as they were options. You have a 247/249 t'case that is fulltime 4wd. You can swap over to a 231 or 242 t'case, just make sure it has the same spline count.
