Your XJ won't flex as well off-road when you install frame stiffeners. That's ok, long arms will get your flex back in order.

Definitely start parts collecting for 1 ton steering. Avoid trying to source the rare 7/8-18 tap, just buy the weld-in inserts and save a hundred bucks for something else. Upgrade your trac bar at the same time with the same material as the tie rod. Might as well do the high steer arm too and separate your tie rod from the drag link.

DOM Tubing, buy enough to make a link between knuckles, a link between pitman arm and knuckle, and trac bar.

Tie rod ends....you can get these from Napa too.
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...E-REPLACE.html

Two left hand, two right hand (for tie rod, and for drag link).
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/7818TA.html

For trac bar, it'll depend on what you can stuff with the right clearances but I'd use a bushing on the frame side and a heim on the axle side.
http://www.barnes4wd.com/DOM-Sleeve-...ing_p_137.html

The right hand/left hand won't matter on the heim end of the trac bar since the other end is fixed with a bushing.
http://www.barnes4wd.com/Heat-Treate...ube_p_321.html

Like so...but a better trac bar angle. If you have front wheel spacers, move the tie rod to above the knuckle. Ream out the knuckles and XJ pitman arm to accept the larger 1 ton TRE.

I dreamed up my ideal jeep build last night. Start with a Jeep CJ 8 drop a little turbo disel in it with some awesome gearing and 1 ton axles and 37"-40" tires. Shift the rear axle back a few inches, chop the back quarter panels and put some beefy steel hight fenders front and rear.

Yeah I know your dream, I had the same dream years ago and now I'm living it.... I always thought that a CJ8 would be an awesome truck to build my ultimate Wheeling Truck because I love the old school looks but as the XJ has the perfect wheelbase/axle width, light weight and an amazing engine + in my case a strong auto.

The AMC CJ6 at 104"WB is the same as the CJ8 but with heaps less rear overhang so I have based my build on the six + was a lot cheaper than any of the eights I looked at.
So now I'm on #2 "Franken'Jeep" 4litre stroker(OBD1), AW4, Doubler & D300, wide track Waggy Diffs(locked-4.88's)& 35" Trep's beadlocked.
I can't believe your pic because I'm painting it the same color in flat.
This build is a bit different because I've stretched a TJ tub, fitted a CJ6 cowl/firewall & CJ7 screen + using two CJ7 hardtops to make da full length top & ute tops for winter......Heater/Air-Con, Cruise Control, Pwr/Str & 1800w Multimedia/Navigation Sound system fun truck.
Who knows how long it'll take to finish it because I'm now do an upgrade to the XJ this month.

Sometimes you have to follow your dreams coz your a long time dead.......You've had it so maybe its time to live the dream

Well gents my next project picked me. I ended up tarring off one of my lower control arm mounts on the d30 and that means upgrade time. Lower contol arm mounts, full truss and c guessed brace from Artec Industries are in the mail.

Subbed! Great build. I've been trying to find pics of that JCR bumper besides the ones on their site. How do you like it? Before you trimmed it was it flush with trimmed fenders?

I am happy with the JCR bumper all thier stuff looks very clean. I think thier bumpers line up with the stock fenders. I took about 1.5"s off and my 35s still rub a Little when fully flexed.

I started the the d30 truss project today. After getting a $400 welding estimate from a local moble welder I desided to spring for a light duty Lincoln 140 HD Mig/ flux core welder and bush up on my welding skills. So fare it has been straight forward, remove old mounts, prep metal and weld in new hardware. Here is my progress so far.

The Dana 30 is all buttoned up and back under the XJ, just in time for the weekend in the Sierras. A few of the pics bellow are from Lorel Lakes, Mono craters and the back side of Yosemite.

I need to do a truss on my d30, the passenger side UCA bracket tore off. Would it be possible to weld that truss on under the truck, or does it pretty much have to come off?

It might be possible if you removed your track bar and tie rob but I think it would be a pain the a$$. It took me less than an hour to pull the axle but if it's your first time it will take a little longer. With the axle out prepping and welding was a breeze.

Well gents after a quick damage assesment I decided it's time to pull the trigger on HD diff covers. I ordered a poison spider bombshell for the d30 and a ridler for the rear chry 8.25.

What coil springs did you get when you first got the OME kit? I got the heavy duty ones and the rear sits about 1.5 inches taller than the front.

Do you have the stock 1.5" OME lift? I started with a hybrid 3.5" DPG/OME 3.5" Ultimate lift from DPG Off-Road, build sheet is below. It came with OME XJ (2930) coils + 2" spacer wich are roughly 160 lb/in coil rate and OME leaf springs (cs033rb). If your trying to level it out just add some stock coil isolators, ploy coil spacers or pull the trigger on some adjustable Acos spacers which add 1.5"-3.5" of lift depending on how you have them set up. If you have specific questions about your OME springs I would give Dirk at DPG Off Road a call, he will be able to give you some real insight.
