Starting over stan
Howdy hey all. if anyone knows of my old and first xj "barney" it was a extremely nice Cherokee that some stupid kid ruined and destroyed with half assing everything on it. so I decided to put barney to rest. and start fresh with a new xj. I plan to take all that I've learned with barney, and do it right this time!
pudgyfingers told me of this xj he had seen sitting for years, so I went and talk to the owners. said there 3 sons drove it through high school and then the dad drove it to keep miles off his truck. he said after the catback rotted out he stopped driving it and let it sit, starting it every now and then, last time he tried it would only run for ten seconds. He told me he was going to scrap it, so I offered him the price they would get for scraping it, $400 and that I would tow it away asap! he said yes right away! so on Saturday rented a tow dolly and towed it home with my zj.
I will upload pics from my phone asap
so what I got was a 93 Cherokee sport.
hunter green metallic
4.0/aw4/242
30/35
full skids
rear lsd
brand new 225 tires on ten holes
crazy clean interior
only 105k!!!
I have a lot of plans for this build, but I will keep most of them to myself. Made myself look awfully bad always changing my mind. it will be a rather slow build since I start college at wvu the 16th of august.

As I said ill get some more interior pics later on(its so clean!!!)
what I've done so far:
As soon as it was home I threw a battery in it, all electrical good, as the po said only would run for ten seconds. so after recalling what nowheres taught me once about the fuel pump ballast resistor. I unplugged the two ends and stuck a piece of heavy gauge wire in-between. started up and kept running just fine. so replaced it with barneys resistor and all was good. runs and drives great! ac blows ice cold.
once it got dark I realized that the gauge lights wouldn't turn on and that the interior lights wouldn't turn off. I suspected a bad headlight switch. So as I went to replace that I found that the po had spliced in new wires to the purple orange wires on the male end of the switch. which is for the rear running lights. also noticed they butchered the radio harness.
so yesterday with some help from mustang and even more help from 94xjsport I got it sorted out.
The gauge lights was a combo of:
bad switch
bad switch ground
two pinch wires
so I replaced the switch, fixed the ground, and cleanly added in some new wire. as far as the interior lights being stuck on....jammed door plunger. also cleaned on the radio harness a bit.
Gave it some fresh gas and seafoam as well.

Cf is being annoying about pics now so I'll have to get more later. Only issue now it my temp gauge stopped working. Its not the gauge nor is it the plugs for the cluster. Need to figure out what wire is responsible for the senor and chase it down.

Nothing done to Stan today. Changed the oil in my Zj. Don't feel like changing stans when it's just going to sit.
Thinking about plans tonight.
First and foremost MAINTENANCE!
biggest mistake I made with barney. Want to brakes, majority of the engine gaskets. Fluid changes.
This should be before maintenance, RUST CONTROL. stan has a good bit of underbody rust. That needs to be addressed with a wire wheel and some paint. I'll take the carpet out and bedline it. And then stick the carpet back in.
Lift wise I'm not really sure.
Eventually want 4.5" with 35s on built 30/8.25
Not sure if I want to do 3'' and 31s first though.
