Sitting flush and actually bolted to the pinch seam are different things. If it's sitting flush you're sure to crush the seam where the supports are, if they're bolted to the pinch seam using some flat stock then it'll transfer the load evenly.

They're pretty simple, just 2x3 tubing for the slider and 2x2 for the brace. Cut to ~62" and cut at a 45 at both ends and capped.

The braces are just located so that they meet the frame rail at its thickest points, just ahead of the rear leaf and at the t-case crossmember.

I notched the pinch seam and folded it over to allow the braces to pass through.

Not the best picture but you get the idea. This allows the slider to be pressed tight against both the pinch seam and the rocker,

The rocker steps up about 1.25" from the seam but its plenty solid. Then I just jacked up the slider tight against the rocker and ran self tappers through the pinch seam into the slider at regular intervals along the length of it.

Better late than never, Moab pics!

Day 1, busted off two wheel studs on the drive down just outside of Moab...off to a good start...

Literally 10 seconds after my buddy took this one...

This...

But a quick fix and we were off to Fins and Things.

Lots of steep climbs and decents, way fun

First poser shot ever

My partner in crime for the weekend

Was a blast, highly recommend it if you haven't done it before. And the sunset from the trail was pretty awesome.

The next day was Kane Creek Canyon. Overall a great trail but I imagine in the fall its a little dull from lack of water. In the spring though its pretty fun and completely different from the rest of Moab's trails.

Starts out pretty bumpy and dusty but soon enough...

Hey this looks easy!

Oh...well at least there wasn't a crowd...oh wait, there was like 30 dirtbikes there... Ah well, first time it needed a winch

Fairly tight in some places, especially for a truck...

Good views though

Many, many of these...turns out xj's are great swimmers

The climb out was pretty gnarly in a few places

Next up, Hell's Revenge. Stay tuned

Probably my favorite trail of the trip, was hard enough to be interesting but not so much as to be stressful. Has excellent scenery and we ran it on a Sunday morning and had the whole thing to ourselves.

The taco went first...

And immediately got stuck...

Move out of the way!

And watch how its done

Spectacular views

What's that Lassie? Timmy fell into a hole?

Decent into Hell...Hell's Gate that is

He drove up it like it was paved...long wheelbase and all that...

My turn

Looks good...

Still good...

Starting to feel kinda funny...

#&%@ !&^% #&%$ Someone shoot my spotter... Fell off the side into the crack...doesn't look too bad here but the passenger side dropped a solid 5 feet and bounced back quite a ways...

But I was able to get back on the wall and up it went

An awesome trail and an awesome day and surprisingly no carnage to report, though not for a lack of trying...

We rounded up the trip with Poison Spider Mesa. Originally we were going to do Gold Bar and Gold Spike as well but were limited by time. There were good parts to the trail but overall was fairly meh, and was certainly not the 6 that it was supposedly rated. Fun but wouldn't do just PS again unless it was to get to Gold Spike...

Typical Moab views...insane...

The GF getting it done

After Hell's Gate this is downright easy

So there we have it, first trip to Moab Was a total blast and I definitely plan on going back. The jeep did superb, I was honestly rather impressed. The only thing that really slowed it down was my inexperience and its lack of a center skid, both can be remedied fairly quickly. It did pretty good on the highway too, struggled a bit on the passes but it managed almost 19 mpg at 80 mph so I'm pretty happy. All in all, a great trip.

Back from the dead!

Been living with a lifted xj as a DD for the past few months and honestly couldn't be happier. The IRO kit has been awesome, rides good, handles nice, no death wobble. Need to address the shackle angle at some point, kinda bouncy in the rear...

Been doing some wheeling too, still tears it up and looks good doing it

Rebuilt the t-case recently with new bearings and chain. Was a bit of a bear to get back together and falls firmly in the category of things I'm glad I know how to do and never want to do again.

Anyway, enough with the old stuff on to the new, time for a new project!

Any guesses?

That's 3/8 plate by the way, 11"x24"

No guesses huh? Ah well, play again soon.

I figured it was about time for a tcase skid and since I didn't really like any of the options for the 242 I made my own.

Was going for something semi flat, I think it turned out pretty good.
