Nelly The Purple Jeep
Finally found a 1979 dana 60 king pin. Bought it for $1165 after much haggling.. the brakes are still good so I'll keep those. Hopefully the hubs are too so I'll keep those for a bit until I go 35 spline outers. Hopefully I can get away without replacing the king pins for a little while and just tossing gears in.
My plan is to run TNTs truss with the brackets already on and heim steering for now.

Started to take the axle apart a bit. All the bearings and seals in the hubs are going to be replaced, they were full of mud with no grease.. also bought new loaded calipers and rotors since they were so cheap. Also got Spicer u-joints coming in and a 1350 to 1310 u-joint conversion for my driveshaft. My TNT truss showed up today to my surprise. Ordered it monday and got it friday, top notch. Also got their high clearance lowers. Next week I'll be ordering my steering, trackbar, gears and locker and that should be about it for now.

Thanks man
I need to figure out how to change the title of this build. Anyways my order for heim steering, track bar kit and 14 bolt simple swap from ruff stuff is on the way. Going to pull my spindles and see if I need to order anything else and then place some more orders with amazon.. This axle is going to end up costing more then I paid for my jeep!

Got some good progress done to my axle tonight. Cut the steering arm off because the bolts on the studs had rusted away. I was fortunate enough to get both lowers and the PS king pin cap off without much struggle. I do have to buy new lower king pins because I messed those up bad.. ended up using the weld a piece of metal on the king pin and smash it with a hammer approach. Thing came out like butter! Two half hearted hits and it was out. Got too late to get the other side done though.

Lol slowly but surely. Sucks having only 3 or so hours every night before it gets too late to make anymore noise. Plus 10 hours of working in a shop then going home to work on more cars..
Hopefully the gears and such are here by this weekend so I can some 5.13s in there

More, albeit slow, progress. 99% of my parts are here now so that's good. Got my carrier out and setup bearings made for it. Torqued down my new ring gear got it ready to start mocking up shims. Didn't have a 1 5/16 socket for the pinion so I'm overnighting that to get that done tomorrow. Hopefully then I can get my gears setup and put this axle back together

Dang. What a money pit. Wish I was a baller like you.
Looking about average for a KP axle build. Keep it up and let's go wheeling now that you've got a tow rig.

Meet me up here and we'll wheel. I'm going to big dogs right when it's done. Better yet I'm planning a trip out to moab maybe next summer.
Last night I finished gearing my axle. Pinion preload and backlash took some time but got them all set. Put some paint on the gears and first spin made a good pattern. They're good enough for me so I pressed my new bearings on and said goodnight. Tonight I'll be welding on my tnt truss and then I'll try to paint the whole thing.

I can see the light. Truss is all welded up, lower control arms too. Going to cut my upper mount off my dana 30 and use that because I'm cheap. Tomorrow I'll hopefully have this thing back together 100% other than the steering. I'm going to try to bring the jeep in and tub my rear fenders so I'm ready for my 14 bolt
