Talking My new(to me) xj!!!

To start this build off. I got my xj from a guy for a parrot. Yes a bird. It was his originally, he wanted it back bad.

I got the jeep about 4 days ago. It needed a lot of work.
Rockers were rotted away, floor is gone, problems with over heating, lots of car cancer and I mean lots. The valve cover's breather was broken and melted back in some how...

The good.. It is a 5 speed 4.0ho with a 2 inch lift. It only has part time 4x4. Not to sure what that means if anyone can enlighten me. Im guessing I would wanna swap it out for a full time??

So I started off with my new toy by getting a thermostat. After trying to work the top bolt out for an hour it broke loose. What I found upset me. The previous owner tried to do the same thing, but instead of getting it loose they broke it then permatexed it all back together not being able to get the second bolt out. Luckily there was 1/2 inch of bolt sticking out the head.

2 hours of trying to work it with vice grips I got mad, welded a nut on it and broke it loose. Got my vice grips on it and got the rest out. Replaced the thermostat and tried it. Instead of fully overheating it now stays around 210 but doesn't go up much unless i beat on it. Any ideas?? Water pump is working.. But I'm not 100% sure it is working correct...

Anyways I've moved on to the valve cover. I called around and found a grand cherokee with a aluminum one(the one I have now is plastic??) anyways they told me if I come down and pull it I can have it cheap. I showed up today with tools and started out to the jeep. What i found was an engine threw the firewall. To the point i barely got a socket back there and broke it lose with an allen wrench put into it. Here they tried to removed it before but seeing how it was so crammed and hardly anyones hands could get in they just left it and told me to try thinking I wouldn't be able to.

Well I got it off spending an hour working at the bolts... I finally get back and he wants to charge me 35 bucks for it.. Online they were 60 new. Thing was full of thick thick grime. After settling for 20 because there was no way to get him to move less. I got some engine cleaner, high temp paint, gasket, and some wire brushes to clean it up.

So here I am now lol. With it being night time I can't clean it up till tomorrow. I do have it soaking in gas to loosen some up. And today is my 21'st bday instead of being **** faced I was trying to fix my xj

Sorry for my long rant of my new xj but I'm pretty excited lol. Welding up my floor and rockers hopefully tomorrow. Also have a cherry bomb exhaust on its way tomorrow morning. Sadly I did put my metro restore to the side for this jeep. But I'll get back on it next summer lol.

My wish list..
headers
3-4 inch lift
31 muddin tires on an offset of rims for weekends
sliders
under armor
brush guard with fog lamps
winch

Also pics in the morning!! lol..

Sounds sweet! Wish mine was a 5spd
You definitely dont want Full Time 4wd. (XJs get bad enough gas millage as it is )

My guess is that you have the NP231 Transfer Case, and IMO, thats the best one. Cant wait for pics! Good deal for the parrot by the way!!!

Alrighty. So today it was raining. So I decided to install my head unit. I got around to wiring it in and setting it on the dash when it stoped raining. So being nosy I checked to see how tight the bolts were on the valve cover...
It turned into me taking it completely off and cleaning up everything inside.
A 1 hour job turned into the whole day.

So after spending 4 hours cleaning up everything inside the valve cover(Sorry dk all the terms for parts just know how they work lol.) and going threw atleast 3 gallons of gas to clean it all i relized I was going ot have to change the oil and filter. Went out got a new filter and some oil. Got everything back together started her up and boom oil everywere... I forgot to clean the old gasket off for the new oil filter. I also broke the wire to my oil pressure gauge. 20 bucks in oil all over the ground

Thankfully I had 2 quarts in my metro's trunk I was saving for a day liek today lol. But it was all well worth it. My xj is running great, and my new exhaust is ready for tomorrow. I'll get some pics and maybe a vid to hear the new exhaust

Sorry for no pics. Was really busy and forgot. But tomorrow you can see my "new" valve cover all painted up blue. It was suppose to be a metallic blue but it came out nice anyways.

Also could anyone tell me if I have an auto locker? Because my dads friend said that since my jeep lights up both tires when I get on it my diff is locked. Plus every so ofter you can hear the one tire slide when turning on gravel when I'm on the gas.

Well here is a pic of my jeep and girl . The person who owned it before me gave it a nice cow paint job.

They also painted the windows with spray paint. I scrapped off the rear to see threw.

Also a pic of my glasspack I'll be installing after the rain is gone I hope.

Decided to add a pic of the river in my back yard. Can't wait to get the jeep back in the woods.

Yeah after reading into it a little more I figured that.
My lumina always stayed around 160ish. Anyways, does anyone have a clue were I can get the wire guide for the cd players wiring harness. Instead of using a harness they hardwired it all up and I'm not trying to spend a day figuring out what wire is what..

He said "I didn't want the sun shining down on my subs, it will damage them."
The front windows are fine. Its the hatch and the side windows. I took a razor to the hatch. The sides I'm going to let go till I need them off cuz it makes a mess.

Brakes went out today. Lots of diff fluids under it so I think I'm leaking brake fluid. Brake light came on too. Gonna start on that problem tomorrow. Hopefully its not the master cylender thats out. Any suggestions? I have to pump to get any type of braking.

A slight update. Still no floor in it. I had to replace a rear u joint cuz well we did stupid things lol. Anyways even tho my jeep looks like a peice of **** or may ever be a peice of **** I find myself having more fun in it than any other car ive owned. And if I cannot fix this one I will be looking for a 2 door xj with a good body cuz my engine and 5 speed is amazing still. I actually had a compliment from a friend on the power it has even tho he drives a super charged mustange lol.

Ok I need some help. We found out my yoke (pretty sure thats what its called) going into my rear end the threads are stripped so my friends dad put a bolt threw it. Now he said its a temporary fix if I'm going to do anything hard on my jeep.

At this point I need a new floor and rockers welded in. It has 190k on it. And its running strong. When I get my floor fixed I want to start to fix the rest. I'm wondering will this bolt hold well? Or should I just get a better rear for it? And if so I know a d44 right? What truck should I look for to get the rear end and how much trouble/wat will I have to do to get it in.

I just wanna get this done. But money is short. My plans with it are as the following

6 inch lift
30's (Tho my brother said he can help me get 35's on it with an 8 inch lift)
d44
front locker (Not sure what brand)
Possibly an air locker in the rear
And a paintjob

Another question. Since I dont have a seam were my rockers are. Will sliders still be possible?
