Put in the new leaf packs and painted the axle this weekend.

Track bar mount still needs work done. So its left unpainted.

And here's a current pic of how she looks right now. I absolutely hate my fenders. They are an abomination and need to go. Hopefully I'll get some Trail Head off road ones or something soon.

So throw me a pickle and call me Dill, today my transmission decided to take a poop. Didn't want to believe it, but it is indeed the transmission. Slips really bad and have a nice grinding sound. Disconnected TCU and was still acting up.

So what do you do when you just can't drive any further to get home. You just gotta sit there and laugh at your situation.

You especially start laughing when you see the color of the tranny fluid that comes out, let alone the smell.

At the end of the day, the best course of action is to drink beer and burn stuff.

Going to pull one in the morning. We got it out this afternoon and hoping we can put it in with help of a tranny jack tomorrow afternoon. I really hope we can get it running. Work on monday is gonna difficult otherwise.

I see your from Jacksonville as well. Hobby shop on base. For the price and what you get, there really isn't any better place. I have been soaking up all the time there for the past few years as much as I can. It won't be around much longer so I'm doing all I can there.

Yeah, I'm on the same budget as you. Haven't seen your rig around. The guys at the Auto Shop were saying the Body Shop is getting shut down, but the welding station is going to stay for now. I need new floor pans but the Body Shop said they would only allow me to tack weld it. Been wanting to build a Dana 30 like you did, too.

You get your rig back on the road?

Yeah I'm good now. It took me 36 hours from onset of transmission failure to running and driving. Only spent $200. I was shocked that we got it swapped out that fast and for so cheap. It actually shifts 10x better than it was before.

As far as the 30 goes. That truss was literally only $49. It's been raising some eyebrows around here. To me its a big middle finger to the upscale truss kits and name brand axle stuff lol.

I heard the prices at the welding shop were gonna double. I've also heard its gonna close. So I don't know anymore, they said they don't know either. I'm just using it as much as I can.

Did some work on the axle build and fixed my pinion angle today.

Here's the stock track bar mount.
Building on an Enlisted Budget..-iuzzvvy.jpg

And here's what I did. 2x2x4 1/8. No hole drilled yet, but it'll get done.
Building on an Enlisted Budget..-hwprnxd.jpg

Also cut off my old perches and welded new ones on at the proper angle and gave myself 1* down. You can kind of see how its off intentionally.

Thats all I've really done lately. Hopefully I can get more done at the end of the month. Work requires me to go play in the woods for a few weeks starting Wednesday.

Maybe I'll find some smaller things to do the rest of the weekend.

I made a quick example video of my axle wrap yesterday. Its not that bad at all but it was cool to actually somewhat see it. Forbid I'm stationary and not driving, so its not super obvious but you can still see it twitch a little. As well as, the leaf packs in the background, you can see where it would start to bend if any worse.

I haven't been doing much lately on the jeep. Been busy with work for the past few weeks. However I have managed to order some 10" prothanes recently and just ordered new stock front bump stops. Forever I've been slacking in the bump top category.

Also, I'm having transmission issues. I have codes 740 and 758. Thats Torque Converter circuit malfunction and Solenoid B stuck open. My symptoms are no 1st gear or overdrive. Sometimes it will all work fine, normally when its still cool.

I can shift manually just fine. So Its gotta be electrical (no its not the TPS, thats the first thing I looked at and adjusted the TV cable properly). I did some research and came up with a checklist on what to check out. Tomorrow I'm gonna check the continuity on the solenoids and ground for the transmission if I can get my hands on a Multimeter. Supposedly solenoids should have 11-15 ohms and grounds less than 1 ohm.

Today I disconnected and inspected all plugs. TPS, NSS, etc. Still didn't fix anything. I've noticed that when it does work, it feels like it kinda hangs in gear before it will shift. I've also noticed it reaches 2500 rpms when decides to shift. I'm reference to this post by excess about midway down, he seems to be knowledgable on the subject.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/tra...roblems-88637/

So do any of you thing that it maybe shifting due the pressure of the lines making it so and not the solenoids? If so I'd reckon my solenoid(s) are done? Gotta get in there and check for myself.

Solenoids are really easy to take out and clean. And if you haven't replaced the filter and fluid yet, now is a great time. Now I remember you said the old trans cooked and you replaced it with another unit. If you still have it, take the solenoids out and keep for spares. You can easily swap the "new" one for the old one.

Now for the TC circuit, did you replace the converter when you swapped transmissions?

I did just that and saved the solenoids before I junked the tranny. The filter and fluid was changed of course when I swapped in the new transmission. Would you think since my old transmission was rather "burnt up" that the solenoids would be damaged?

I used the one from the transmission I pulled. Should I have bought a new one?

You can clean the solenoids and test them while out of the vehicle. The odds of them being damaged is slim.
As for the TC, you have what's called a lock up converter. And the solenoids control that function as well. Just like a clutch, it's always a good idea to replace the converter when replacing a transmission. Before reinstalling you should have drained the fluid from the converter as well.

Well we live and we learn. I'll test the spare solenoids. I'm sure I'm overthinking it but whats the best way to clean them?
