Build project: an 88 story, anti bolt on build
So this is my first jeep..first build thread. I bought it a whooping $700.00 and drove it home.Its a 88..renix powered 4.0 aw4 231 4 door.
this will primarilly be a dezert rig..so will probably be a deiffernt from your usuallly rock or street rig..maybe not..lol
I originally was just gonna build and wheel..but decided to do a build thread..partially to keep me motivated. I plan on building everything i can(time permitting) Also to show what can be done with it if you spend your money on equipment and learning a skill/trade verses spending on bolt on parts for your rig. Im gonna try and keep the rig mild 33s on on the stock axles..but leave room for improvement down the road as money and time permits.
This will be a slow build..so bear with me..and the same time i will be remodeling my house, keeping the wife happy, work, and most importantly, trying to be a good father and role model to my 6 month old son, my first...this is a toy for me..no DD..and family comes first...with that said.
build list:
removable doors
rocker replacment/rock sliders
custom link front end with stretch
custom shackle relocation
custom cross over steering
relocate fuel tank
exo cage
custom center console (roof/floor)
bumpers
cooling
storage
heres what i started with, had already done doors at this point.we,ll get to that in a min though.

scored some steel for the rocker replacments..2x4 .188., got frome the surpus yard a .50 a pound..not bad, just needs to be hit with a fiber pad and be like new.
Used .188 cause its a dezert rig..prob never ever gonna hit em, but are srong enough to make good base for my exo cage.

thank you, with people watching the build, i should stay motivated.lol. like i said..its not a DD..so i have all the time i like to get it built.
bout ready to weld in the sliders..they will sit almost flush to the body, so i can weld on some DOM as a step rail/cage base. once they are in, i will hold off on finishing them tll im ready for the exo.

well....slow weekend, the wife had to work so i could only get a little work done while the little tricycle motor napped.
installed the new to me jy guages..all seem to work.
and got both sliders tacke in and 1/4 welded..as with previous posts..i will put on some DOM rails for steps, and also act as the base for the cage.will finsh welding this week after work.
thinking of starting on the rear bumper and comp cut in the rear next? still saving cash for the joints for the link front end.

Been a slow week, been sick. Hate bening sick, but then again who likes it right?
Anyhow on with the progress, or lack there of. I got the door pins out and replaced with 1/4 28 grade 8 bolts, cut to fit and tacked into place of the original rol pins. A bit of a PITA to get lined back up,specially by your self, but with a little time and aiming oilall went well.
So i had a little time to mock up and cut the front fender. rears are next.
just a shot of the doors back on and fender cut.
I cant get to deep in the dissasembly at this point..waiting for another side job to come back and be finished, its a street legal baja bug, ful coil over, turbo injected subi. but the good news is, this side job should finish funding the rig.
heres a quick shot of the side job
