Default 86 XJ

Well I thought it would only be proper if I introduced myself and my xj before I got too much further into my "build". I'm Nathan. I was recently given this 86 v6 xj. It was my grandmas car that my uncle bought for her. She drove it to the end of their drive way to get mail and to church. It only had 500 miles put on it in the last 4 years. My uncle is a mechanic and bought the car real cheap with a broken crankshaft. He rebuilt the motor and re did the exhaust. The engine has under 10,000 miles on it.

Anyway my grandma passed away a few months ago and I had been driving a 90 integra till it broke down. My uncle gave me the jeep so I could keep coming up to visit him and so I can drive while I'm in college.

So far, all i've mainly done is maintenance: new radiator, trans pan gasket and filter, air filter, wiper blades, oil filter, and belts.

The paint was in less than perfect shape so im in the process of doing a primer grey rattle can paint job on the top half and undercoat on the bottom half.

Plans: lift 2" with spacers shackles and shocks. Tow hooks and receivers. Diamond plate skid gaurds. And a possible 4.0 and transmission swap

Well not much progress. :/ actually went a little backwards: took a trip up to some trails with a couple guys a few weeks ago and banged up gas tank. Guess that's why they make gas tank skid plates! If only they weren't so freakin expensive! So now I gotta buy a new gas tank and I'll probably buy a skid plate to protect my investment. Anyone got one for sale????????

Looking good! Yeah those pesky gas tanks are so vulnerable lol. Defiantly put a 4.0 in there those V6's are not very good motors. Atleast not as good as the 4.0 which is bomb proof.

dude sweet rig.....i like what you got planned and i hear you about how expensive skid plates are

but hey if you are doing a motor swap the 4.0 albeit a bomb proof and fairly powerful motor it is no easy task to put one into a V6 XJ......idk what your fab skills are like but i would also look into a GM 3.4L V6 out of an early '90s Camaro......they use the same motor mounts and bellhousing so you wouldnt need to do a complete drivetrain swap, they are also fuel injected and have pretty decent power....just something to look into

keep up the good work....i look forward to seeing the progress

K here's the underside of my hood (the areas that kinda look weird and maybe screwed up are just reflections from my engine):

And my diamond plate threshold guards:
