Default 4BT diesel into a 94 jeep xj

Well i just found a really nice 1994 xj with a great body and interior but the engine is shot but the odometer show 346548 so the 4.0 did a good job of staying strong for awhile i will keep the 4.0 out of it and rebuild it and put it in my 93 someday.

Ok so onto my swap i will be installing a 1993 cummins 4BT diesel into this 94 xj i have friend at work that installed a 4BT into his 95 wrangler and has about 30k on it since the swap and i love the way it drives and the mileage it gets around 30mpg on the high in a wrangler which is great.

So i will be making a swap thread i'll take pics of the 4BT tomorrow and its donor vehicle also i should have the 4.0 yanked out by tomorrow.

If you want to see what they sound and look like go to youtube and type in 4BT wrangler my buddies jeep is on there i'll find and post a link shortly.

Here is the link to his jeep http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqhAt...eature=related

And here is vid of the 4BT in a xj http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qutHw...eature=related

The length of the engine is about 3 inches longer then the 2.5 4cycl but it is about 4 inches wider then it.

As for the factory horsepower and tourqe they range from about 105 hp and 300 tq to around 130hp and 350 tq.

I will intercool this one and raise the boost from the facotry 12 psi to 18 psi, most people that run that setup dyno around 160hp and 400 tq so going to be around there.

What transmission and transfer case will go behind the 4BT?? I have thought about this on numerous occasions. The things that I worry about is oil pan clearance and suspension upgrades to handle the extra weight of the 4BT.

Any of the transmissions that go behind the 6BT will work behind the 4BT. Most of the frito lay trucks with the 4BT had TH400's behind them, I've also seen guys put 435 trans behind them using (I believe) a ford flywheel.

Still at work right now i'll take some pics of the engine when i get home and also yanking the motor out today.

As for the front springs to handle the extra weight i will be running either jeep zj v8 coils or f150 front springs both will be able to handle the weight the f150 springs will give me alittle bit more lift.

As for the transmission i will be running a NV3550 tranny

there are ppl that use the ax-15 on www.4btswaps.com. Most ppl are to worried teh 4bt will rape it but the ppl that run the ax-15 keep them just untill they die then replace as a way to get all the use out of the ax-15 before replacing it. Idk how long they last though but the post i have read say just dont beat on it. there is a guy running ax-15 and d30 and d 35 and is planing to upgrade when he time comes and his setup kicks the bucket.
