Bottom left shows the "L" shaped bracket that ties into the Rustys stiffeners. This is also a better shot of the 1/8 in plate that runs the length of the engine compartment. First it was given a 1" vertical surface by bending it in a brake so that I could tie into the factory multiple layers and strengthen up the original spot welds. Then the material was shaped with "V" cuts to allow access to the factory threaded bungs and for the factory studs in case I want to use them for something later. I leaned on a good friend named Dave and his fabrication skills and his lift/shop to make my ideas and this portion of the project to take shape.

I feel good about it so far,,,

I think she's a keeper! So I am not cutting any corners (actually I am adding them haha!)

But then again,,,DON'T MOST OF US FEEL THAT WAY? AS WE ARE BUILDING? "like we are going to keep "this one" FOREVER?"

Hopefuly the weight won't bother the diesel,,should not take to long to know the answer to that one,,,I expect to have it running within the next 30 days,,,,,

This shows the beginnings of the roll cage., Just before paint I bent and welded in the beginnings of a roll cage, started with a tube from the newly supported frame rail. connected it up along the spring perch. Turned it at the upper edge of the inner fender and ran it back toward the firewall.

Engine is ready to go with trans attached. New pressure plate, clutch, and throw out bearing. Enrout to a friends shop that has a lift. Additionally he has a few larger fabrication tools than I have at my home "shop"

Trans is a 2006 Jeep Wrangler 6 SPD. Has an aluminum adaptor that mates the Cummins diesel to the Jeep.

motor is in, Power steering pump from a jeep came on the motor but the mounting was not up to standards and it was in the way of the steering stuff on the drive side, gotta move it to the other side. Make a new mount etc.

Had to put a different return line/inlet on the back,,the one it had on the side cannot be used now because it is to close to the block. (the brass plug is now where the return line was). The return line location I picked is a bad spot. It would have been better to return the oil below the normal operating level. it is mounted to high. I did not do enough thinking before I choose the location.

With pump , belt adjusted ready to go, pretty happy with the final fit

For the idler arm pivot point, I used the beefy existing alternator bracket. There was a threaded hole that was not being used. Made a couple of heavy wall spacing bungs to get everything lined up.

Last weekend motor came out.

Had to do final welding on the motor mounts and a couple of other touch up places.

Then had to touch up the paint in the engine bay on the new welded spots while it was out.

Originally I installed the motor and trans as a unit, then fabbed up the mounts for the engine and then the tranny.

So this was the first time to pull the motor and leave the transmission in place,,super smooth/easy.

Motor goes in and out with plenty of room to work and maneuver stuff.

Motor should be in place for many years now,,fingers crossed!!

Its time to do the final stuff.
1. Driveshaft shorten.
2. Mount fuel pump, mount fuel filter, although I may run the stock fuel filter. Its the big gray box that is mounted on the firewall that came on the Cherokee.
3. Make power steering lines.
4. Re-core the radiator.
5. Figure out fan/probably go with electric fan and thermostat and shrouding etc.
6. Re-work 4WD shift likage. it did not align perfectly with the original location
7. Hook up Pyrometer, super easy
8. Figure/Fab radiator lines to and from,,also heater lines.
9. Adapt fuel line from existing to motor, (different diameter)
10. Re-route wiring looms and original stuff like headlights, replace hood, and etc, etc, etc.
11. Make new trans shifter cover for the larger hole in tranny hump, the shifter ended up about 3 inches to the rear of where it was which was nice, because I am tall.

And more stuff for sure, this was just a quick to do list.

Oh the new Clayton lift kit - 6.5. also went on during the motor install.
Gotta get some picks of that done soon, it is SWEET!

The "Dirtbound" front fenders should be here any day too, hope those things make me happy, I have my concerns,,,,
