I am pretty happy at 22 MPG. I am really liking the overall drive-ability and throttle response.
I feels like I could go to 3.73's and not loose any responsiveness at all.
When I pull the fairly long "Alpine grade" (Known to us here in San Diego because we all pull that grade when heading east for desert trips), I back way out of the throttle and it holds 65 MPG.
Or,, I could go to 35's and see what happens too.
That is the first and easiest thing to do and that will really give me a good idea of how it will pull.

My 2000 Cherokee 4.0L i-6 4x4 4 door with 3" lift and 31x10.5r15 gets 22-24mpg hwy and 13-15 city.
I live in the northern Orange County area.

Skid plate
Ran outta time to make stuff so I recruited a fabricator with a great reputation to make a fuel tank skid plate.
BK08 is color of powdercoat
The white scuffing is from a box riding on it during the trip home, wiped right off, but does it really matter?,,,going to get scuffed all over soon anyway!

Sliders
Wanted to make a set of sliders that were functional to the point that they stick out far enough to protect the lower portion of the door from damage.
When sliders stick out enough to work, they make it hard for daily driving, getting in and out comfortably, so I made a set with a removable section on the drive side.
Tubing: 2 inch square .250 wall for the main rail under the rocker.
1 3/4 square .188 wall for the outer rail.
1 inch square, .250 wall for the short "connectors".
1 x 2 rectangle tubing 10 gauge wall for the support to the Rusty stiffeners".
1/4 inch Aluminum plate for the skid pan (under the rectangular tubing).
Skid plate held on with countersunk #14 hardened sheet metal, Philips head screws (into the rectangle tubing).

More pics that show the rectangle tubing welded to the stiffener.
Caps on the ends of each tube.
Single stage PPG HVLP semi flat black paint for top coat (easy for touch ups and blends great).
Time to go to the DEZ and crawl around for awhile, its Presidents day weekend!!

Removable section on drive side slider
Removable section for daily driving ,,, IF ,,, I get fed up with stepping over the slider.
This removable section basically doubled the fab time to make these, but it came out so nice.
Threaded and tapped the tubes to accept the hardware.
There is a .125 wall, 1 inch strap that I welded to the removable section for strength so it does not load the hardware when it comes down on a boulder.
That strap mates to the solid section by overlapping about 8 inches on each side.
Then I used 1/4-20 button head allens on that strap to keep it from separating when it rubs stuff.
Additionally I tucked in another 3/8-16 stainless cap head bolt right behind the outer rail, just for additional strength to ensure nothing moves around.

Amazing. Just, ...wow
You more than proved what skill, ingenuity, and grit can accomplish. Bravo, sir.
Thanks, to you, and all those who share something on the forum. Stuff that gets the rest of us fired up, makes us smarter, and more appreciative of what these rigs can do.
From the modders and fabbers, to the purists and resto rodders, to the engineers and techs, to the off roaders and trekkers, to the problem solvers and daily drivers, to the dreamers and gawkers - you make this forum great.
Bless you.

Have continued to work on it, but have not posted progress, so here are some pictures ,, probably not in the order the work was completed.
I have 25K miles on it since the Cummins went in, the setup has basically been trouble free.
The ride is amazingly comfortable and I have found it is so capable and versitle.
It has been to Moabs' Hells revenge, Fins and Things, and a weeks worth of trails there too.
It has duned in Glamis and I was really concerned about all the weight up front but not one issue, duned with 8 Lbs of air, wasnt quick to accelerate but the diesel provided so much tourque, it never pulled the RPM down, so with the Eaton Locker added in the rea to the new Dana 44, it just kept motoring right along.
Ocotillo (hard desert) numerous times.
It is regularly is used to take me to Pargliding lauch zones and to transport other pilots and enthusiasts up when they need a lift.
Many times it has been our second vehicle when we travel in the motorhome, it rides on a 17 FT flatbed.
This is mounted in the storage/hatch/box I built that takes the place of the window on the drive side.
Also in the storge area.
all seats re-upholsterd soon,,,I hope..
Aluminum Storge compartment to the left of this 3rd seat that is centered. Directly behind the seat is the Wytner tall and narrow refirigerator and freezer, WORKS PERFERCT!

More pics
Pictire shows just a portion of the HI-LIFT jack that is mounted at the bottom of this box. *
Extra Brake lights on the back of the roof rack, XJ's are often rearended they do not have the best of brake light visiblility stock. Also back up lights operated independantly with a toggle on the dash. *
Beginnning stages of a center console, there will be a second level that is the shape on the outline on this base plate. Big circle is for a cup holder, smaller are for risers to stand off and hold the second level lin place.
Cool factory Diesel stuff this Jeep came with
